Ordered mine on January 16th. I just got an email today saying it'll be here by the 11th.

Are the windows averaging under a month now? Good news.

Great news! My order status went from "not yet shipped" to "shipping soon" last night, and then a couple of hours ago I got an e-mail saying it had shipped. Should be here next week.

Background: Placed my order on Jan. 20 (a reorder after canceling an earlier December order due to $ issues).

Shipment #1: Shipped on February 7, 2008 -- order placed 16 January.

BUT! When I placed the order I was informed, "We'll notify you via e-mail when we have an estimated delivery date for this item." Errr... an e-mail *after* it has shipped is not the same as "an estimated delivery date!"

Now I need to go pick out a couple of books to order.

Awesome news, keep letting us know. I ordered on Jan 24th, so now I'm highly excited that I'll get a notice next week some time and hopefully have the thing in my hands within a couple of weeks.

I ordered Jan 27 and UPS tracking says it already halfway here and will be here tomorrow...and it just shipped today....whoo hoo

WOW! that was a Thursday. I ordered mine on the following Monday (28th) and no word yet but this means I should hear something soon.

I'm REALLY excited abou this little doo-dad. I have been compulsivly checking my Amazon account, bank account and email for any signs of my Kindle shipping for over a week now even though I knew full well it was way too early but now it's getting close.

I've read just about evey review so now I feel so much like I already have one that I had a dream about it last night and woke up lookin on the nightstand for it. Sick, I know.

My only complaints so far are Amazons' departure from their normally excellent disclosure and tracking and the insane price. I'd like to have a better idea of the order-to-ship hang-time and I'd like to see more of these in the hands of people who make under six figures. Hell, I just made that for the first time in my life and Im a 45 year old professional. Back when I was in school and actually had time to read I could not have afforded one. Mainly because eventhough $400 was about $100 in 1983 dollars, that was a little more than I ever seemed to have liquid at any given point.

Anyway, I've babbled on long enough. I gotta go check my email.

They just left it on your porch? I'm glad I was able to be home for the day mine was delivered. Really don't like the idea of expensive packages being left outside. Plus I think it was raining the day I got mine...

One reason the Kindle costs $399.00 is that Amazon requires a signature for all deliveries over $400.

Quick update: I love this thing. Only drawback so far? My favorite reading chair is in a bit of a wireless dead zone--with my Sprint cell phone too--but that's not the Kindle's fault. Otherwise, I'm loving it! Now, back to Kindling . . .
