Having a perfect, error-free, fully compliant ePub will not guarantee an identically-rendered KF8 ebook. There's ePubs made for ePub devices... and then there's ePubs designed specifically to be converted to KF8 by kindlegen. They're not the same beast. If you're careful, you can craft an ePub that only needs a subtle tweak or two to create a nearly identical KF8 (and a comparable fall-back MOBI), but don't make the mistake of thinking you can grab any validating ePub and just run it through kindlegen to create a KF8 that's: A) error-free; and B) visually identical to the original ePub. That ain't the way it works.
