That might work.

How about we harness nationalism? Have each country nominate a book. Then give out a bronze, a silver, and a gold medal. Have a TV show where authors, or actors playing authors, get up and read excerpts. Then the same people who know nothing about, and care nothing, about rowing or dressage except when made into an Olympic contest between nations might find themselves more interested in literature than they ever knew.

In that atmosphere, the literature Olympics judges wouldn't dare hold back the gold.
