It sure would be great to find a reference.

Perhaps e-mailing Bookeen is your best bet if you have questions, but I honestly think you're worrying unnecessarily. The Gen3 is a very good reader indeed. The only concerns I've seen people raise about the button are that:

1. Some people find it a bit stiff (but I don't personally; I like buttons with a positive action).

2. It very occasionally misses a press, which appears to be a firmware issue which I'm sure will be sorted.

Did anybody look into the Overdrive question that was asked on this thread? (If so, I apologize and point to the jet-lag excuse )

From the website it looks like Overdrive offers ebooks in PDF or Mobipocket format. PDF sucks on the Sony Reader and it also doesn't do Mobipocket. in that case I suppose the Bookeen device would be better...

I can confirm that OD MP books work fine on the Gen3. OD don't support the Sony at all.

Overdrive has announced support for ePUB in the future.

I went into my local Sony shop just before Christmas and enquired about the Sony eBook reader. The salesman told me the following "It is not on sale in the UK because it has not legal as it threatens libraries with closure."

I translate this to mean "I am completely ignorant of my company's products". Mind you, UK shop assistants are the worst in the world.

Anybody hear this or any other ridiculous nonsense from any other Sony store?

Hi. I've got plenty of .lit books on my pc but I find it impossible to settle down to read a good book (mainly fiction) at my desk. I'm thinking about getting the sony reader but I know they don't read .lit books. I also know that the sony reader doesn't handle pdf files very well. My question is what type of file should i convert my .lit files to so they can be easily read on the sony reader. Thanks for any advice.

The easiest way to handle LIT files is to first use ConvertLIT to remove the DRM. Do not convert. Just remove the DRM. Then use lit2lrf (part of Libprs500) to convert to LRF. Then you can just load onto the Sony and read from there. It's a very easy process.

Should you decide to get a device which support MobiPocket (such as the iLiad, Kindle, or CyBook); it's equally easy. "ConvertLIT" converts books to a format called the "Open eBook" format. There's a free tool for converting from OEB to MobiPocket format.

I tried this (using the free Mobi Creator software) & it worked very well, the results were quite pleasing. It's nice to know if I ever switch from my 505 to a Gen3 or something that it'll be so easy to re-convert all my LIT files.

Yes, it's definitely an excellent reason to buy your books in LIT format.

Good advice, I live in the UK so if I bought a Sony reader I couldn't use it to connect to Sony's shop anyway. They are available on Ebay though for about £150 ($300). The problem for me is that I love reading thrillers, sci-fi and fantasy and I have about 3000 lit books on my PC. Only problem is I can't get used to reading on my PC even though I like the Microsoft reader. I like reading in bed for an hour before I go to sleep or wake up the wife So I'm thinking of a device like the Sony reader to make it easier. Looked at some websites that had the iRiver reader which has a double screen and looks good but I think it's only a prototype, so best I've seen for my budget seems to be the Sony Reader. As you say if it can read .lit files easy with a bit of converting then that will do for me. 3000 books will keep me busy for a few years So what reader would you recommend for me?
