If you compare Seattle to Indianapolis, you'll see that Indy gets slightly more rain per year on average - maybe an inch or so more. But if you compare the average number of days with precipitation, Seattle has more than 30 more rainy days per year. (125 vs. 158). Which was also sort of borne out by my experiences - there were a lot of days where it would rain, lightly, for an hour or two - and be perfectly sunny the rest of the day. When it rains here, it tends to rain for the whole day, even if off and on.
