Seems that this supports mobi7 only or the first header on KF8 dual-mobi format. Can anyone make an updated version with KF8 compatibility?

If you open up a purchased KF8 you'll find an entry with the following info line:
<!-- The following meta tags are just for information and will be ignored by mobigen/kindlegen. --> Below this are a number of entries, one of which will be: <meta name="CDE Type" content="EBOK" /> (or "EBSP" if it's a sample) This seems to be what determines whether the Fire displays the file under Books or Docs, since adding or changing the EXTH 501 entry to include "EBOK" makes no difference. Unfortunately, there seems to be no way to add this line manually, as Kindlegen removes it if you add it to your epub source file, and I can find no way to edit a KF8 mobi without extracting the archive and repacking, which removes the entry. Calibre will add the line to mobi conversions, but it does not yet handle fixed layout KF8. Does anyone know a way to do this that circumvents Kindlegen? |

Brilliant! Thanks so much for this. I have a Dutch-English dictionary, but my K4 wasn't letting me set a default dictionary for Dutch. I used your program to look at the French-English dictionary (which does work), saw that it had a record 105 (subject) that the Dutch one lacked and whose value was "dictionaries." I added that to the Dutch one, and presto!
This has been a real pain in the neck, since my Dutch isn't fantastic, so I need to look up words pretty often. One thing I noticed: all of my Dutch books have Dutch as the language in the metadata (regulated with Calibre), and the K4 recognizes them as Dutch and selects the right dictionary (now!). But in Mobi Meta Editor, the language shows up as Unknown (19). Just FYI. |

I'm happy you find it useful.
Thanks for the tip - I've updated the app to include a couple of extra languages. It should be able to map code 19 properly now. |

just for completeness ![]() Spoiler:
PS: You may be better off using a java.util.Map (e.g. a TreeMap, so it can keep its entries sorted either by language name, or description), rather than two arrays, to map back and forth descriptions and IDs ![]() |

Would it be possible to get this as a plugin for calibre?
Currently, I have to: Import epub to calibre Set metadata (collections and stuff) Find the .mobi with your script Edit the metadata Save new file Find old file Delete old file Rename new file to old filename Relaunch calibre Send to Kindle That's alot of work for two lines of metadata. :P |

@arad26 Where do you find incompatibilities? I used it with no problem on my azw3 and was able to add/change/delete metadata.

Can you try to download from the Amazon Kindle Format 8 page the KF8 example.
I had no problem to open it with gluggy's Java MobiMetaEditor v0.16 and then to modify the metadata. |

The zip in post#1 contains v0.16 (even though the comments have not been updated to say so).
The post#42 has a github link to the source code with a change log that is more explicit. |
