One I know will never be released as an ebook is Shoot Him On Sight by William Colt MacDonald. It has always been my favorite non Louis L'Amour Western Book.

Why will it never be released as an eBook?

I thought it was, but I didn't find it currently available. A bunch of the Heinlein ebook rights came up for renewal and went to different publishers. It's possible the new publisher doesn't have it up again yet. Baen picked up several of them.

I may of course be mistaken, but I don't believe that this particular book has ever been legally available as an eBook. I've kept an eye out for it, because it's one of my personal favourites.

Yes, Moon is a Harsh Mistress hasn't come up yet, legally.

A number of Heinlein books were availbable, then a batch came available later, then nothing for a while.

Alistair MacLean has a number available, but not all of them (in the US). I maybe have to see about buying from the UK Kindle store next week when I am in London.

But this type of thing is why some revert to torrent sites. I admit I picked up a few Heinleni books elsewhere, but I buy them as they become available through other outlets.

There are a few other authors where this is also the case.

Hey, for someone in the UK are the 633 Squadron books available in ebooks form in the UK?

I'd suggest that you buy from Waterstones (the largest British ePub bookstore) in ePub format, and convert to Mobi (www.waterstones.com). You can't buy eBooks from Amazon UK as a "visitor" - you have to move your account from the US to the UK site, and I think it's a one-way move.

Do you have a title or author? I'll check for you.

You can't buy from any of the UK types unless you are in the UK, including Waterstones.

This hit home to me when I read Chesterton's essay on Dickens, in which he (Chesterton) took on the notion that the characters in Dicken's books were broadly drawn, and, indeed, caricatures. Not so, said Chesterton. If you take a look around you, and consider the people you see to be characters in Dickens, you will immediately see that Dickens draws from life.

So the question you would resolve by meeting Le Guin is not whether she is a weirdo. It is merely what kind of weirdo she is. She may be a different weirdo than we think...

This is very true, but I was responding to the previous poster's comment that he was visiting London, and planned to buy some eBooks while there. It would be much easier to do so via Waterstones, than Amazon.

Well, there are ways to get around that. I maintain my Amazon account in the US, a Kobo account in Canada, and am about to set up a Waterstones account in the UK.

Though the authorship of the famous quote* by Cardinal Richelieu is disputed, I think I can say without too much fear of dispute that if you know anyone well enough, you can probably find six reasons why they could use the services of a good psychiatrist.

* "If you give me six lines written by the hand of the most honest of men, I will find something in them which will hang him."

I am puzzled by the attack on Ursula Le Guin, a writer whom I admire very much for her work, and for her wisdom and compassion. If you read her blog, which is a series of thoughtful essays that I recommend to anyone who cares about the state of the world, you would have come across the essay numbered 19, written earlier this year, about Google.

In it she states that Google has taken some of her work and made digital copies without her agreement. If an author of her standing is treated with such a lack of respect, it is hardly surprising that she may not wish to rush into having her work turned into digital editions.

You can find her blog at:
