What's the version number? I don't think I've gotten it yet.

Something tells me I'm going to be disappointed....

Removing an item from the carousel only removes it until the next time you open the item.

So this is more of a 'remove clutter' move, but allows you to still see recently used items. So each time you open something you don't want seen on the carousel you have to remove it again.

It seems to be a good middle ground.

I just got the upgrade to 6.2.1.

Under device it now shows:

Application Storage (0.95 Gb of 1.17 Gb available)
Internal Storage (4.13 Gb of 5.36 Gb available)

It also allows an option to remove any item from the Carousel. It also show in the upper right corner the percent completion of any book you touch in the Carousel.

I removed everything from the Carousel other than what I am now reading.

It's good middle ground, yes, but it should be configurable. Especially with the favorites shelves right beneath it. I don't need my "favorite" apps in the carousel. And I really don't want web pages there when I have browser bookmarks. You should be able to exclude based on category (books, apps, web pages, videos, music).

Personally, I would rather have the carousel be dismissible completely. It may serve some function in the "music" and "Video" tabs, but at the home screen it is useless visual blight.

I'm just keeping the two eBooks I am currently reading in the Carousel. Maybe I'll keep the chess program there as well.

All the rest of my favorites are on the Shelves.

This way I can get to those ebooks fast every time I want to read.

Anything else, which gets into the Carousel, I'll just remove. Its much better this way than it was in the old firmware.

Thanks for the sideload link Jeremy. I hate waiting on these updates.

Why on earth do they need to push a 180 mb update just to fix the carousel an add restrictions? Things that make you go hmmmm

It's the nature of the Android operating system from what I've seen. They do not do incremental updates, but full OS updates each time an update occurs.

I agree completely. I'm disappointed that it won't be more configurable as we were all hoping.

That hasn't been my experience. Android updates are generally incremental unless it's a full point release(like Android 2.2-2.3). If it were a full update it probably would have been over 700mb like the last update.

I don't know why I can't just patiently wait for my Fire to update, but I downloaded the update linked by jeremy81 (thanks!).

I seem to remember when manually updating a Kindle 3 I simply added the file to 'root' rather than putting it in a specific folder. I did that on the Fire, then disconnected and turned it off and on, and I am not prompted to update the device. The option to to Update your Kindle is still grayed out. Should I have put the update in a folder, and if so, which one?

The instructions said to put it in the "kindleupdates" folder. That's what I did and it worked fine. (It was slow)
