I barely made it through the first book, and about 2 or 3 chapters into the second, and I gave up on that author. He also had people heliocasting (sic) onto the ground. I think he meant fast rappelling. I don't know many people that would jump out of a helicopter onto the ground.

Ahh, the ingenuity of man when her life is at stake. But re-loading a revolver would always take longer than re-loading a pistol, right? Thus, when the rounds are finished the man holding the pistol would be able to fire again faster than someone holding a revolver? |

Though the writer should probably make a point of only doing this with details they know and are familiar with. So if you know nothing about computers, ask someone who does before writing details about them...

I think 'Releasing a hand brake' is being taken in the wrong context here. I tend to grip the hand brake when taking the bike off its stand and maintain position until I want to move (especially on any grade). Of coarse, my other hand is holding in the clutch leaver |

Any gun meant to be fired using one hand is a pistol. A revolver has a cylinder that revolves each time the trigger is pulled, placing an unfired round under the hammer. A semiautomatic pistol has a magazine and uses the energy of the fired round to load the next round. This can be done mechanically or gas driven. Apache |

If the revolver used the full moon clips vs the semiautomatic with spare magazines. The revolver can be loaded faster than one not using the clips, but methinks the semi automatic will win, speed wise.. Now reloading individual rounds, into the revolvers cylinder or the magazine for the semiautomatic if one wants a full cylinder or magazine. The revolver will win the race. (Cylinders hold fewer rounds) But if all that is needed is one fast shot, the semiautomatic will win, because the user needs only to drop one round in the chamber and release the slide, aim and pull the trigger.. With the revolver, one could put one round in the cylinder but then you have to index the cylinder so the gun will fire with the next trigger pull. For me it can depend on the type of book. If I feel that the author is trying to write in an authentic manner then I'm going to be more anal about mistakes (if I see them). However, for novels that are clearly fantasy I tend to gloss over some errors as creative license. I didn't know that Spain had a monarch - perhaps because I'm stupid. But if I'd stopped to check for any reason and discovered this information I would have been rather unforgiving of the error. |

As a ships engineer, I spot quite a few technical errors and plain old S.T.U.P.I.D events. Matthew Reilly "destroyed" a good plot when he made a whole plant blow up due to KFK gases. KFK does not burn or explode. In fact it is one of the most effective fire depressants that exists. (Halon fire extinguisher, anyone?). Speed II anyone? I've never been so embarrassed while watching a movie. There are so many idiotic errors and so many stupid ridiculous details that I don't know where to begin. You cannot override mechanical shutdowns via computer. You cannot "hack in to" a ships operational system or software via "internet". You cannot take the elevator down into a ballast tank. Ballast tanks does not contain light fixtures. Ballast tanks does not contain laundry. You cannot hang one-armed by the propeller shaft in 25 knots and "nudge" a rope into the propeller. You cannot turn a 25-knot speeding ship by the side thruster. You D.E.F.I.N.A.T.E.L.Y cannot "handcrank" a side thruster. Cylinder heads will not pop off an engine and still have the engine run at full power. Cylinder hedas will not pop off, the piston will come out of the side loooong before that. (Besides, stopping an engine is only a 19mm wrench away to dismantle the fuel line). And so on and so forth.. |

I saw some Swarzenegger movie where he was dangling from a jet right in front of the intakes and wasn't getting sucked in. Almost anything with military aircraft in it is going to have mistakes though. Oh, and the Migs in Top Gun? T-38 training jets. Not really a mistake but a fun fact. I used to work on them, so seeing them portrayed as Russian Migs was hilarious. |

Here's some more, movie related: Sound of jet engines and explosions in deep space. (Star Wars, Lost in Space) Continous thrust from engines on spacecraft (Star Wars, Star Trek) (Although, I love Star Wars).
