Mine means "reader" in my language. That "reader" can be either a person who reads, or it can stand for electronic reader. I first though of using the feminine form "citacica", but decided I liked the ambiguity (of course, most other users won't know that it's an actual word and not just a string of characters).

My sister always called me "Will yumm", kind of a phonetic pronunciation for my name, William.

I stole it from a guy on the bus. Two other guys ran after me, knocked me down, and tried to wrestle it away from me but I bit them both in the pants leg and was able to get away with it safely in hand (paw). That, and I do think Vivaldi rules. https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...86&postcount=1

I used my name since I'm here as a writer, but you'll notice "kookoo" below it. That and kookoo88 are my handles on most other forums and on my twitter page.

I started using that when I was a teenager and needed a handle for the video arcades. It's short for kookoo cachoo, which I used to say all the time because . . . I was totally cool and stuff. . .

I joined alt.callahans way back when. There was someone there called "Cat Dancing" and I had always loved the name. But obviously it was taken. And I thought, well, when I'm at the computer I'm not dancing anyway, am I?

So I took Cat Sittingstill. Generally it is not taken.

My Grandfather (who died before I was born) used this alias to join the Army in 1917. He was under age, probably had run away from home. He had two older brothers serving, one in the trenches in Europe.
My Grandfather was sent with the Australian Light Horse to Egypt.

When ever I use this name I'm reminded of him and the sacrifices that generation made

I wanted something other than the handle I use elsewhere and I like history so . . . . After I chose it, I found out that there's a blogger called Historiann. Ooops.

It was a great old movie from the early '70's, "The Man Who Loved Cat Dancing." Burt Reynolds, Sarah Miles, Lee J. Cobb, George Hamilton,Bo Hopkins, and of course.... Tonto! (Jay Silverheels)

I love this thread! I'm always fascinated by the behind-the-scenes info, so this is great.

Mine comes from my name plus my astrology sign. It is so hard sometimes to come up with something fun, cool, descriptive, and unused, and my brain has quite ached at times! I thought this one would be much easier for people to use/remember than it has proven to be. Ah, well.

The picture is of a couple of the cows who live across the street from me. I couldn't find just the right picture of a cow or bull to represent the Taurus part of the name, so two cows chatting seemed appropriate for a forum about communication in its various forms.

(Only one of the two is showing...duh...forgot that I had to crop!)

Last edited by victauria; 12-10-2011 at 03:03 PM. Reason: The other chatting cow got cut out of the frame due to pixel overload!

My real name is unique in the US. (There may be a little kid with it as well, but I don't know). One does not want to be broadcasting it around the world...

So I choose a nom de plume, equally unique, but not as readily traceable. Many of my friends have called me Sir ____, so....

Ralph (a relatively common givenname) Sir Edward (another relatively common surname).

Until I used it, unknown.

Best of both worlds.

Very mysterious, RSE. It takes my imagination in many directions.

My story is very boring. The first time I had to create a user name, I just started typing everything I could think up until one was accepted as not in use. I have used it ever since.

See boring.

I'm now in my 60's and have been playing various PC and console games (currently Xbox) for years. Somewhere along the line the youngsters started calling me a "Geezer".

I decided to "roll with the punches", and created a character for Ultima Online back in the late 90's and named him Ghii Zhar (a phonetic spelling of "geezer") and have used it in every video game, and many forums since.

My name is Russell, which I used as a board name until one time I found that it was already taken.

I lived in Georgia at the time, so I joined that board as GA Russell, meaning Georgia Russell. Everyone thought that GA was my initials because Russell with two l's is a last name, and they called me GA as a result.

I was amused and liked that, so now everywhere on the internet everyone calls me GA!
