I wouldn't say I've ever bought a book based entirely on the cover art. Although the cover is what catches my interest first, then I read the back cover to see what it's about.

If it's when I'm out and about I then take a picture of the book on my phone so that I can research reviews on it when I get home. That probably sounds really anal and weird. But my friend is now doing the same.Plus I do it because my memory is shocking. Hahaha.

I haven't read One Day, despite my friends raving about it and trying to get me to read it, mainly because I found the cover very unappealing, and then because it's not a genre that interests me.

I'm also not a fan of covers where the cover is plain writing. Doesn't grab me at all. Imagination catches my eye every time.

I don't think taking pictures is anal at all! I use the Amazon bar-code scanner to add the books to my wish-list so that I can find them again.

Whew, thanks!

I can often be found in W.H.Smiths during my lunch break photographing books. The people who work there must think me a nutter!

In the pre-iTunes days I would always buy a couple of CDs based on the cover, hoping to discover something new and wonderful. Don't recall it happening very often. I have never done it with ebooks, primarily based on my experience with music and the fact that there always seems to be some kind of information available about the book.

I didn't do that with music, but I did end up owning a lot of CDs where I only liked the one or two songs that made me interested in the first place. If I could get all of that wasted money back, I'd probably have a decent little nest egg..

I'm with the majority, an attractive cover is good but only superficial and easily ignored but a bad/ugly cover will make me dismiss the book.

An interesting thing is the electronic versions. I've read a ton of the Baen catalogue and couldn't remember a cover for the life of me but seeing them in RL on the shelf I was taken aback on how bad some of them were. Particularly the Webers. Artist's renditions of either Honor or a treecat was soooo different than I imagined that it was offputting.

Fixed that for you!

I like lookinglaughing at how a cover comes out in gray-scale...

Yeah, I have. Not so much now, cos fanfic books (among others) don't have any covers. But that's ok, that juicy story counts more!

It worked once for me! Lemon Jelly. Love their art work and a lot of their stuff!
