That's like saying that Microsoft have a monopoly on word processors because .DOC is a proprietary format.

A always liked their explanation. Short story: when in doubt, just ask yourself "can I replace it by 'it is' ?" If yes, then it's "it's", otherwise it's "its".

Neither of those is true. How you can be wrong about absolutely everything and still keep posting and insisting you are right, I have no idea.

Amazon uses proprietary software to protect & control the use of the ebooks it sells for the very reason that it does not have a monopoly on ebooks. If it had said monopoly it would not need to use proprietary software.

No the Amazon electronic text store combined with electronic text readers is not a business, it is a 'commercial-government' thus a monopoly.

It appears that you really do not understand what an OS or a monopoly is.
I I have 25+ years in the computer fields and have spent most of my
career in management so I have some knowledge here.

I'll explain it to you so you hopefully get it:

Linux is an operating system, just as DOS, CP/M VMS or MS Windows are.

Debian and Ubuntu are not an OS, but are Distros (aka versions) of the Linux OS.

MS Windows Vista, and MS Windows 7 are versions of the
Microsoft Windows Operating system.

A monopoly is basically when a company controls an Item such as Electricity or
Telephone Service and there is no alternative so you are forced to buy from them only.
(This is what prompted the break up of the telephone company years ago)

Amazon IS NOT an monopoly because:

Other e-book readers are available (Sony, Nook, Etc)
Other e-book formats are available (mobi, epub, etc)

For Amazon to be a monopoly they would have to do something like patent the
e-book technology then not allow anyone else to produce readers or books.

Controlling a format (such as .azw) is not a monopoly, because another company
could just release e-books in another format and produce readers for it.

Incorrect because they are practically for the end user with just hardware computer, an operating system to do various things: email, browser, applications, utilities etc.

Incorrect. There should not be a connection between the electronic text (ET) reader and the ET store.
