Blog post worth reading on the Gobsmacked site discussing paid book reviews here. The entry mentions a particular site that authors can sign up with in order to have people manufacture five star reviews for them. http://gettingbookreviews.com/

TL;DR so if I'm repeating someone, accept my apologies and ignore the post.
Don't even get me started on Ms. Klausner. I don't know who or what she or they are but I can't STAND her/them. Here's why: One of my best author-buddies posted a link to a scathing review from her/them where she/they didn't even get the book's character's names right. I was like, "This is stupid! Why don't you complain to your publisher and get the review taken down, and this idiot prohibited from reviewing on Amazon?" She reacted as if I'd suggested she be boiled in hot oil....this was before I was aware of the weird relationship most traditionally published authors have with their publishers. But come on, how much value can your review have if A. they're not even accurate and B. there's no way one person is doing all of them?? |

![]() I'd like to see that. I've never seen anything other than a 4 or 5 star Klausner review in the wild. ![]() |

I've never seen her give anything other than 4 or 5 stars either. I have seen a couple where she has gotten the names of the people in the book wrong though. That's always funny.
In my experience, authors care most about the high star rating because that's what most of the casual browsers on Amazon look at. |

I wonder if it would be harder to create a Klausner persona, if you gave bad reviews. Four and five star reviews are unlikely to make enemies even if they're stupid. But bad reviews might make enemies, and if you make enough enemies, eventually one of them will find an effective way to strike back. Whoever is the mastermind behind the Klausner persona perhaps gives only good reviews, because it allows the persona to continue operating without interference.
By this token, if you find an author who did receive a bad review from Klausner, I wonder if the Klausner puppetmaster has some connection to that author, where they know they won't be challenged? |

This particular author was more upset about the wrong character name - as I recall, it was fairly important to the plot. I can assure you the author was not amused LOL. I got curious and went looking at the comments on some of her reviews also...seems a LOT of people are pretty fed up with her - I found one person who called her out on typos and stupid jokes/puns.
