All my books bought from amazon. kobo, barnes & noble are liberated then sideloaded to my devices. I have only once used the web browser on the kindle and that was just to see what it was like. I don't even keep the wifi turned on on any of my devices, it's just a battery drain to me. If I want to look something up when I am out I use my iPhone..

![]() And Karma to you! ETA: I have over 130+ books that haven't read yet. My TBR list is pretty full for the moment. Maybe when I have whittled that down to a manageable number I would be interested in locating new authors/books on the fly. As of right now, I don't need to D/L any new books. Some weeks ago I made myself unpopular by wondering why people wanted dictionaries on their ereaders. When I read, I just want to read and I treat my ereader much as I would a dt book. So exactly the same is true for me with 3G. I don't want to keep looking stuff up when I am reading. If it seems important enough, I can do a look-up when I have finished reading. I may be old but I still have sufficient memory to be able to recall what I want to check up.

I am another one with no need for 3G or even wireless. I use Calibre to organize my books, so I want to get the books on my computer so I can set the organization properly before loading on my reader.
As for booting up your smart phone, why is it ever off? It is my phone, so it is on. But like another stted, I pretty much always have a real computer with a high pseed connection running. And finally, how long do you think that 3G will be "free" if more and more people use it for general surfing? |

I don't buy books from my Kindle, and my phone and/or tablet (at least one of which is always with me) do a better job at accessing internet services than the Kindle. So I know what I'm missing, but choose to "miss" it anyway. ![]() |

The only thing that could make 3g interesting to me would be to look up some word or definition while reading something, but since my Sony now has dictionary, i really don't see any use for the 3G at all...
Besides, i always carry in my reader, 20+ unread books of several genres, so i am never in a situation i have nothing to read. And i try not to download another batch load of books before i read at least a good portion of what i already have. Good good, would be a infinite/extra/spare/changeable battery...that thing DOES interfere with my reading when i am away for a long period of time travelling and/or camping. |

about the "so-so pace". actually for most major sites that have mobile versions, the web browsing is quick and painless.
the mobile wiki works wonderful on the kindle. even non-mobile sites load fairly quickly. i never perceive the browser to be slow. and bingo on the addiction thing. i'd say i probably have a bit of an internet addiction. although it could be other environmental factors, though. anyway, tmi. |

You can't download books from the library right now, but that's coming later this year. Speculation is that it'll show up in September. We don't know yet if you'll be able to access the library from the Kindle itself of not. That would be nice. |

I haven't got a kindle, I was talking hypothetically and thinking of a Kobo WiFi for example.

at home you'd need some sort of wireless router if you have internet. Last edited by Ditchleyportrait; 08-05-2011 at 08:33 AM. |
