Why are the kindle screensavers so freaking ugly?

Jailbreaking its safe. I think that if jailbreaking wasn't safe there would be tons of messages flooding the forums asking for fix (this forum and many other Kindle related). I can vouch you that nothing will happen to your kindle.
However, I agree that personalizing the Kindle should have been the way to go for Amazon, but the returns from the Ads must be really good for them not to drop those.

There is this thing about Amazon that tickles me, is that they are not willing to develop the software so user's can pick from a variety of choices (Ie: pick Duokan or Kindle OS), neither allow users to upload their own content (screensavers). Its the middle term that bugs me, "you can program your own software, but we are not giving it public recognition".
The down side is that everything comes from the dark, and users tend to be suspicious about it, because they might think that they are viruses or not might break their Kindle.
If I recall correctly, duokan started as a fix because Kindle OS would support Chinese/Japanese characters.

normally I would agree with you....

but the ads on the Kindle with Special Offer are prettier than the default screensavers.
(especailly today's new ads featuring hot girls with low-cut dresses)

For what it's worth, I find the screensavers cheap and nasty. I would much rather have the option to download my own (grandchildren, etc) but can't be bothered to enter into the murky world of jail breaking.
