Thanks. This is very usable now, even with large magazines. I think the cache won't be necessary for most mags but will come in handy for mags like the one I've been testing with. Looking forward to seeing how this develops in the future.

Thanks for all the bug reports! We've now released 0.3.0 in the Market.

I would suggest that bug reports get posted in the Issues section of code.google.com/p/apv

Features since last official release:
- keeps zoom and location between invocations
- various color modes (normal, black and white, white on black, green on black, red on black, black on yellowish)
- searching
- list of recently viewed files and customizable home directory
- vertical scrolling lock
- much faster than before

I've just posted 0.3.1dev1 here: http://code.google.com/p/apv/downloads/list

One of the annoying things in 0.3.0 was that sometimes one would accidentally double tap the screen and get a zoom. Now, you have a choice of the double-tap action. Default is zoom in / restore zoom, so if you double tap accidentally, you can get back. You can also choose the old zoom-always functionality, or you can disable double tap altogether.

It's my understanding that the special nook screen refresh mode doesn't quite work, though. Is that right?

Better than that: it's free AND open source.

just put this on my Pandigital tonight. Great app. Any chance to get a page turn option (along with scroll) and brightness control?

Definitely my default PDF app now. And with those tweaks would be a perfect bedside reading app.

Great work.

What do you mean by "page turn"? Just an option to somehow go to the next page? You can set the volume keys (or the left/right keys or the up/down keys or the pageup/pagedown keys) to move by a page.

I use my SuperDim (free, Market, needs root) plus my DoublePower ( beta, http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1255391 ) for brightness control. It's very convenient: I double tap the power button, and up comes SuperDim, and then I have precisely the brightness controls that I want.

I suppose I could build all the SuperDim brightness controls into APV, but I am hesitant to duplicate functionality--it's easy enough to launch SuperDim on top of APV.

What do other users think?

Thanks for the tips. I'll check out superdim. I didn't notice the volume controls because on the Pandigital those buttons have been remapped to "back" and "menu" buttons. No biggie.

Really love the app. Renders very fast and the color inversions and options are great. Many thanks again.

Sorry, I didn't reply earlier. Don't know what was planned behind this option, but at least for some readers (CoolReader3) it allows special eInk full refresh for every N page. It's when eInk screen goes via completely black screen. I tried now to page forward and back in apv multiple times and the background areas always filled with blurred remaining of previous contents, so probably no special nook refresh works. Btw, CR3 is oss, you can look at how they made it.

I see. I take it that the partial refresh leaves some artifacts on the screen?

Yes, it does. Only that it's not that big deal (personally for me). I was going to post some links here but found from search that your sources tree already has N2EpdController.java so you're probably familiar with all those things. Just look at the sources of CoolReader, as I see when the time comes (N page), the developer calls
N2EpdController.setGL16Mode(1);
in other cases (1.. N-1)
N2EpdController.setGL16Mode(0);

It's not quite so simple, because APV draws each page multiple times, since it draws while things are rendering in the background.

Tell me more about the artifacts. Is it that:
a. There are black artifacts in areas that should be white.
b. There are white artifacts in areas that should be black.
c. Both.
?

Ok, I more to a), but you can see it yourself at the photo http://postimage.org/image/2gd0543j8/, the upper part is after options dialog (full eInk redraw), the part below is after I did multiply time to the next page and before. In this case the effect is more visible than when I change different pages. Is it subpixel rendering that postponed in apv/muPdf?
