Oh cool! That is good to know.

Do you suggest posting at the Alf blog about the ones that didn't work, or in the Calibre forum here?

Discussing the specific details of DRM removal processes is against forum rules. Always take it to Alf.

As for the OP's question:

I e-mail everything. I'm like others--too lazy to find & hook up the USB cable. The emailATfree.kindle.com address is nice, and I send a lot of .doc and .pdf files that way, as well as books I get from Manybooks.net or PG.

Another thing I do is if I'm hitting the road, and I've got a Google map for directions, I "print to PDF" and then just e-mail that to my Kindle, then I've got the directions waiting on my screen for me as I drive. It's been very helpful in a few cases. You can get this function by downloading the CutePDF driver.

Instapaper is great--I use it frequently.

Did not realize I could e-mail .mp3 files, but may try that as well.

In any case, this has been a wonderful feature; my wife has a K3G/Wifi as well, and we have a similar but separate address for her unit--I can e-mail to one or both just as easily.

In addition to all the things people have already mentioned, I use a Chrome browser extension called 'Send To Kindle' to send web articles to my Kindle for offline reading and reference. It really works well most of the time.

I use that as well. I still have to transfer the files manually, but it's great for getting free online short stories on your Kindle for leisurely reading at a later time. I think they have a version for just about all the major browsers now.

Free Transfer of Personal Documents

If you would like to transfer your personal documents to your Kindle for free, you can send attachments to "name"@free.kindle.com to be converted and e-mailed to your computer at the e-mail address associated with your Amazon.com account log-in. You can then transfer the document to your Kindle using your USB connection.

For example, if your Kindle email address is Jay@Kindle.com, send your attachments to Jay@free.kindle.com.
how does this work exactly? you email the document to your free.kindle.com address and you can access them while in your amazon account and download via usb to kindle?

No, the documents are just emailed (as attachments) to the email address your Amazon account is registered with. The same one you log on to Amazon with, and the one your order confirmations go to.

Besides that... yes, you're correct. you transfer the file via usb to your Kindle.

Unless you don't have a Kindle 3.
I know everyone is probably tired of my harping on this, but I think it's an important distinction.

Actually, I have been looking for something like this (send to Kindle extension) for Firefox with no luck. If anyone knows of one, I would love to hear about it!

wifi capability was a big reason I upgraded to K3.

3G is only '1X' where I live, so it was never very good for me, even though it was 'free' and more ubiquitous. And as we see, it is not 'free' when pushing content, and with K3, there's a $50 surcharge for this capability.

Does the K2 browser work with Dropbox? if so it's possible to email attachments to Dropbox (with 3rd party solutions), then you can download them for free over 3G.

While it's true that there's no installable extension for Firefox, the beta bookmarklet version of Send to Kindle seems to work very similarly... at least in my tests.

Quote:
Bookmarklet version (Beta, support Firefox, Opera, Chrome, Safari, IE9)
Drag this bookmark Send to Kindle to your Bookmarks Bar.
Then simply click it when you're on a page that you want to send to kindle.

* Click bookmark on this page to open options page.
