in conjunction with jcase and cpod (both of droid eris and general android hacking fame), I've got the debug password. adb shell results in a root shell without "rooting" using robots method. From there its extremely easy to produce a more conventional android root.

Thanks go out to Robot for the initial root, and paving the way for the community!

mrspaceman,

Be cafeful with that root app, it is using different mounts than this device. We rooted it and enabled adbD tonight (we gained access to the debug password algorithm).
I will post the password, along with some needed files for proper android root access shortly.

This is just amazing! I'm really glad we adb access now! Wow, I feel like a new era of customization on the edge is beginning. ^_^

I look forward to what is to come!!

There's still yet another ways to root EE. But I published only one that if (for some reason) EE will block rooting in future releases we still be able to root it with another method.

Having rooted my eDGe using the "Android Universal Rooting" app this morning, I had to wait until I got home to see if I had successfully enabled adb so that I could debug on the eDGe instead on in the emulator.

I have now run up eclipse and it recognises my eDGe and has installed all of my apps onto it (I had to uninstall them first as they were installed from signed apk before - that's normal and I had to do the same on my phone).

So the result is : on device debugging and adb now work on my eDGe

thanks go to robot as he is the one who found out how to enable adb.
