So what does that mean for us? I have problems very similar to yours, robot. If I do the same touchscreen test, there are a few areas where I get fairly long, vertical lines, but mine are mostly toward the middle of the screen. I'm not sure whether this qualifies the device as unusable or merely extremely frustrating. I really like the machine, so I work with it, but I have so many misclicks that it can be very trying at times. I do find that a firm touch helps a lot, but it doesn't solve all of my problems. If this is a hardware issue, do I need to live with it, or does it rise to the level of asking for a replacement?

Same issue here. But typing with stylus or fingernails helps a lot

I'm discussing it with tech support now. Hope they will replay tomorrow after some testing.

That would be great if there is a fix. One of the reasons I bought the edge was to sketch on. The way the LCD jumps around that is pretty close to impossible, and very frustrating.

FTR, I have had no problems with my touchscreen responsiveness. Using my finger is less accurate than using the stylus, but that doesn't surprise or bother me. If I need detailed work, I use the stylus. If I need to type fast, I use the stylus in my right hand, finger on left. Works perfectly, though since I'm not yet accusstomed to the tactile difference in using a virtual rather than a physical keyboard, my typing accuracy is about half what it is on a physical keyboard.

It seems that some people do not have the problem and are under the impression that it's the general "touchiness" of the LCD touchscreen that is being discussed. Here's two examples of the "jump":
1) I'm scrolling through some 200-odd ebooks in the Library, get to the one I want to read, stop and lift my thumb that was scrolling the screen on the right side, tap the desired ebook with my stylus, and instead of being selected the ebook list "jumps" half a dozen places or more up or down. Sometimes completely off the visual display so I need to scroll to it again. 2) Drawing a Japanese kanji character in aedict's kanjipad full-screen handwriting recognition pad. I get to the ninth stroke of fourteen and suddenly a line shoots out from the tip of my stylus to the bottom of the screen, requiring me to clear and start over. Things like that. ![]() |

I've only had mine for a couple of days, but I've noticed that when I'm moving a display on the LCD side by dragging with my finger or stylus, when I let go it takes a moment to center itself and come to a stop. Maybe the jump you're seeing is that you're clicking too soon, and the display hasn't gained it's equilibrium yet. What happens if you scroll to where you want to go, then wait a few seconds... then click your selection?
(I understand this wouldn't affect the keyboard strokes.) |
