Buying a gadget for a gadget sake? No, neither do I. A gadget does need to have some purpose. But it was still the main reason for me to buy an e-ink reader. And for me to buy that Sony.

Originally to take on holiday instead of carrying a ton of books.
Of course after I got back I never read another pbook again. Now as for why I seem to have at least 7 of them, It's either gadget territory or the fact that I can't get one to do everything I want yet (Although if the sony 505 had full justification for ePubs, better font size and font type selection with the screen and processor speed of the 650 that would do me just fine - OK I want a non touch screen 650) |

For reading in brightly lit settings (e.g. car parking lot, etc), I find the PRS-350 to be much easier on the eyes than using backlit devices (e.g. iPhone, etc). |

No matter the functionality (and "limited" doesn't mean it can't be a want-to-have gadget...), any gadget (and I do think the ereader is a gadget) I buy will be bought, in part, because it is a gadget. But there's always another reason (such as the ability to take something with you without the need to recharge the battery every other day, which was one of my non-gadget reasons I bought the Mini). But if you'd ask me what was the important one, I'd probably say the gadgetness...

Bingo! If that gadget doesn't do something that I need it to do without costing an arm and a leg, I'm not going to waste money & clutter up my house with it just to say I got a new gadget.

I bought one because I travel a lot for work and pleasure, dragging enough books around was really a hassle. I also camp and backpack a lot, sacrificing room and weight in a backpack for a book which just might become fire fuel was frustrating, having a reader is a HUGE deal for me! it's also easy to have on ski slopes!

One gadget. Two gadgets. Three gadgets. Many gadgets
![]() And then it's also a very convenient way of owning and reading books. |

I got it because I was reading a ton of eBooks on my N800, and the backlight strained my eyes. FBreader also seemed to have a bug where it would randomly want to skip multiple pages when I hit the button for next page, and that bugged me.
The closest thing to a secret, is that it is easier to hide when in class or at work. |

My reasons was changing from a netbook that overheated all the time to a small 5" ereader with Portability, Font sizing, Easy on the eyes and SD Card capability. Once Pearl came out I upgraded to a Kindle 3.
My main reason was I don't like used books as who knows what's on those old pages or where they been in like a bathroom. ![]() ![]() I was skeptical that E-Ink could emulate a paperback but I think it's better then a paperback and I love I can zoom in as needed. Try doing that with a mass market paperback that uses 10pt fonts. lol |

Real reason:
It's better than paper. Secret reason: My reading selections are more private. No one has to know if I nerd-out, juve-out or trash-out. |
