The disadvantage to MobiPocket format ebooks is that when the DRM erver goes down, you are well and truly screwed from being able to purchase most of the book in MobiPocket format.

hence why MobiPocket has been down for 3-4 days already and you cannot purchase most books no matter then online shop.

This is certainly true. Since Mobipocket relies on DRM servers this is a problem. However, other ebooks and media use DRM servers as well and in general ANY website can crash, any company can go out of business, hindering (and halting) your ability to purchase, download, and re-download books.

All formats are subject to a certain element of risk, except for non-DRM formats that can be more easily distributed.

I don't think Mobipocket suffers anymore than the other DRM formats. They are all subject to the hazards of technology.

Well, what I am hoping for is that MobiPocket is able to get it's DRM server back up on Monday since maybe they were just unable to do so because of it being a weekend.
