I doubt it. I blame it on the oil. Everything is expensive in Norway. In Sweden a paperback book is maybe $8-12$. Buying an English paperback is usually more expensive.

From a Nordic perspective the complaints from US people about book prices seems kind of absurd...

The reason for this is that notes and annotations are tied to a particular location in a book and, of course, if the book changes, these locations become invalid. Hence, if you do ask for the updated version, they explicitly warn you that you'll lose your annotations.

I just got an email from Amazon saying they have a fixed version of a totally borked ebook I bought (well, it was a free giveaway, bought at $0.00, so I wasn't too worried about it). I had to opt in to the update, but they did ask if I wanted it which is better than me asking THEM if they have it periodically.
