You're a fellow Canadian and your blurb box says you've got an iPad. If you've Kindle for Whatever installed on it (or are just willing to do the strip and convert route), Dead Witch Walking, 1st in The Hollows series, is a stealth freebie for Canadians only.
Also, if you like noir with plush, you might want to also scoop up Amberville and Women & Money: Owning the Power to Control Your Destiny before someone official notices and they become un-stealth-free. |

"and the Janet Evanovich Stephanie Plum series,"
We like this series as well. I got a recommendation (from this forum) to look into "The Spellman Files" - 4 books by Lisa Lutz. A somewhat dysfunctional family of private investigators in San Francisco. The author is a screen-play writer so the books are written like actors would act and do and not a lot of internal dialog. But the characters are interesting. There is also the "Bubbles" series by Sarah Strohmeyer. A bit lighter and sillier than Stephanie Plum (if you can believe it). But easy to read. Also know that Sir Terry Pratchett has another series of books staring Tiffany Acking starting with "A Hat Full of Sky". Dont neglect these. |

Best place to go after reading Harry Potter is to leave the bathroom. You've spent enough time in there.

James Potter ?
Nah - gave it a go, briefly, but too much having to explain, too many clunks, too complicated, too trying to be "faithful", too long, too................desperate, I suppose. Advice to author...Keep doing the day job. |

Check out Moonfleet, available for download on mobileread:
https://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=56728 It's not funny but it's brilliant, and it's simplish and supposed to be for kids. and it's got smugglers and slavers and evil police. Way better than Treasure Island or King Solomon's Mine. Funny how it's been forgotten. |

Lois Greiman's Christina McMullen series reminds me of Stephanie Plum as does
Kathleen Bacus's Tressa Jayne Turner series Nancy Springer's Enola Holmes is something I think you would enjoy. Helen |

The Orphans of Chaos triology by John Wright is a rather unique fantasy.
**What if your teachers taught you everything–except who you really are?** For Amelia and her friends, the strict English boarding school she lives in is all she has ever known. The sprawling estate, bordered by unknown territory on all four sides, is both orphanage, academy, and prison. The school has a large staff, but only five students, none of whom know what their real names are, or even how old they are. Precocious and rebellious, all five teenagers are more than just prodigies. Amelia can see in four dimensions. Victor can control the molecular arrangement of matter. Vanity can find secret passageways where none existed before. Colin is a psychic. Quentin is a warlock. And, as time goes by, they’re starting to suspect that none of them are entirely human . . . |
