I was an early adopter here in Canada when the Sony 505 was pretty much the only choice of ereader that there was. Since I bought mine in '08, I have been directly responsible for 2x 505's, 3x 600's, 3x 650's, 2x 300's and 1x 350. I have also been responsible for 2x Alurateks, 1x Kindle and 2x Kobos. Holy Crap, that's 16 eReaders!!!!! That's the first time I ever actually looked at it. Maybe I should start a cult...

I love my e-reader and try to convey that enthusiasm to anyone I know who is a book lover. I try to point out that it isn't either/or. It's not like you are going to stop reading traditional books. But the convenience of e-books is too great not to at least try an e-reader. Still, resistance is strong and in Europe the e-reader thing seems to be a little slower to catch on, at least so my European friends tell me.
I avoid product wars. Sure, I have a Nook, but I also know that choosing a Kindle or a Sony will make more sense for lots of people. As an e-book writer, I don't care what e-book reader you have, just so you have one. |

Can I count myself more than once? I got the Kindle 2 in Nov 2009, the Kobo in May 2010 and the Kindle 3 in Sep 2010. Technically, I gave the Kindle 2 to my husband but he's read only a little on it and it's up to me to keep it charged (but on holidays he insists it gets packed).
I have taken the time to show folks at the office (I have taken the Kindle 3 in specifically to showcase it) and at a gathering in our home; not sure if those resulted in converts. If you could borrow library books directly over wifi with a Kobo ... I'd have a few more on my list I am sure. And then there is my long-term friend from grade school; he's a convert thanks to me. So, maybe 2.5? With one more on the cusp of things? |

I first gave my Kindle1 to my mother when I got the Kindle2 then again when I got the Kindle3 she got my Kindle2 and my sister got the Kindle1. Last year I showed my family my iPad and my aunt and a niece got iPads. At work I have one sold on a Kindle3 and another got a Nook for herself and one for her mother. That's seven that I know of.
PS...I just remembered, my brother has his first reader, Kindle3 after playing with mine. |

Once upon a time I gave my old desktop to someone poorer than me and thought high of meself, for surely now the poor bastard would be able to change his life by way of education, having all mankind's best bets in the arts, music and literature a click away at his fingertips.
as it turns out however he just uses it for social network blind sex, porn, and to download lousy music and movies. moral here being that a turd is always a turd, no matter how much polishing up... |

A couple of weeks ago I got a deal I couldn't resist on a second Sony Reader. I loaded it up with free science fiction books, and this week I loaned it to a friend who wanted to try it. He'll give it back to me in a couple weeks, and already another friend wants to try it after him. I suspect that owning two devices will do a lot more to make me into an evangelist, and an effective evangelist, than anything else would have done.

My wife first, she cast covetous glances for close to 4 months before I gave up and helped her buy a reader.
My dad and my father in law. Both read a lot, both having trouble with their eyes, both extremely disappointed with the # of books available in small print at their small town library's. Was concerned because neither was very computer literate. But both hit the ground running and never looked back. A few others here and there I've given a nudge. Then wait and see if they follow it up. Some have, some haven't. |

I certainly converted one of my grown daughters. She got interested in my large collection of ebooks so I added her iPhone to my Amazon account. She was reading on that for awhile but I worried about her sight as she already has a problem with one of her eyes.
When the Literatis went on clearance at Bed, Bath, & Beyond for $12 after rebate, I couldn't turn down the deal. I had no sooner updated my Literati and loaded it with some books when she took a liking to it and took it home with her. I doubt she will ever go back to reading on her phone or even pbooks. Last week a coworker gave her a pbook she was interested in. She promptly bought the ebook version and put it on her Literati. ![]() |

Sorry if I'm digging up some old thread but it seems like fun to continue debating this particular discussion
![]() As for me, I only got my Kindle 3 at the beginning of this month and my best friend is already jealous of me and is saving up to buy one. But I don't know if I'm able to convert that many people around here, because there isn't that many ebooks in Portuguese, almost none in fact. In my case and his, we just prefer English to Portuguese anyways ![]() Maybe I can convert two more friends. One loves reading and when I showed her the Kindle, she was envying me so much, but she's not that economical stable so I think she'll wait 'till she gets a job. The other reads a lot on her laptop, specially fan fiction, and I explained about instapaper and even if she had to convert some books she wouldn't mind so she's really thinking about it. |

I've bought a Kindle 3 for my 11 yo Daughter's birthday, so she's going to be converted whether she likes it or not
![]() It will be pre-loaded with tons of Agatha Christie, as she's an addict. |
