Borders.com and Borders' stores are two separate entities. Even if the store branch goes under, I think the website will still go on.

Maybe they could start implanting chips in our brains and zap the books directly to it. No reading required.

They are inertia, I did not know that they are separate companies. And here I was with my Borders gift card in one hand thinking that if I did not use it up quickly it would be worthless.

There will be a shift in the future Cherry its too early to tell what that shift may be. Could be another fifty years off into the future but there will be one.

Same here. I've been trying to spend out my gift card. Even came across an ebook they said was unavailable (after I placed the order). How can you be out of stock of an ebook?

I was just messing around and forgot to put a smiley on it. I'm sure things will change ... they always do.

What gave me pause for thought is that I've heard reports that publishers aren't being paid by Borders... or something to that effect... which makes me wonder if that might be the reason for the unavailability of that book.

Just got my Borders newsletter. The Australian stores were sold off I believe. Have a look at the prices Could have something to do with the decline of reading in this part of the world.

Yuck. Maybe something went wrong with the website or they didn't have the rights to sell it? I've heard of Amazon pulling ebooks even after people downloaded them..

I believe the Amazon incident you referenced was an isolated event and will not be repeated. Amazon is still paying for that goof-up. Hopefully all retailers have learned from that.
