This is close to what I do. Usually I accumulate a dozen or so new books on my computer before I transfer them to my Sony 950. However, for the most part, unread books reside on my Sony. Like Lilac, I delete read books from my Sony, but I delete them as soon as I am finished reading them or as soon as I decide that I don't like a particular book and know I'll never finish reading it.

Although my Sony 950 can hold hundreds of books, I try to keep the total on the device to under 200. It makes it much more manageable for me when I go searching for the next book to read.

I only keep unread books on my Kindle. I typically have anywhere from 1200-1500 books on my Kindle at any given time. I do this because once I have finished a book, never sure what I want to read next so I keep a nice selection of all types of books on my Kindle. Once I finish the book, then I delete as I have a copy of the book in Calibre that can be reloaded if I decide to re-read.

All of them.
The opus have support for folders, so it's no problem having everything on it. And i'm too lazy to sort.

I've got about 7GB of unlistened-to audiobooks on my MP3 player, and 341 unread books on my Sony. Don't know right at the moment how many books are on my Libre. I like carrying around my own personal library, that way I have books in whatever genre I feel like reading. I usually am reading a couple books at the same time. After I finish a book or an audiobook, I delete it. I've already backed it up to an external HD or burned it to a disc before I loaded it into the ereader or MP3 player.

I don't keep books in my Calibre library; I hate having to scroll through lists of books there; I don't find it convenient. I edit the metadata, load the books and then delete them from Calibre.

In my case, all of them.

As it happens, I don't use a dedicated reader. My normal ebook viewer is a PDA that does other things as well. Ebooks live on a 2GB SD card, and there are about 4,000 in an assortment of formats. The main problem is remembering which book is in which format read by which viewer.

I happen to like carrying a library in my pocket.

My PEz (Lbook FW) keeps the list-place of the last 8 books read (but the List does not re-order itself for last read if you read from more than 1 on the list FIFO ).
The original Astak FW would keep 32 books in the list, but did not have the file management feature that Lbook has.
Note: Even though the book may not be on the "Recent" list, many seem to know where they were abandoned, as long as you do not change the file name (Unknown:how long this list is).

I dislike file management -- probably because I do so much of it with photos, music, ebooks, scrapbooking, etc.

I keep the internal memory on my Sony full, deleting books as I read them, and filling it up again every couple of months or so.

I keep all my books on my reader, just in case I finish a book while I'm out I know I always have something to read.

First of all, being a "double Libra", picking only a few at a time for the reader would be agony (picking which one to read next is tough enough!) - I'd be forever second-guessing myself that I really want to read one I hadn't transferred!

When I was a kid, my dad sat me down and we watched star trek every night. One of the memories that sticks out the most to me about this was Captain Picard sitting reading Shakespeare on a datapad. Turns out he had an entire library at his fingertips wit that little datapad. I was jealous beyond belief.

So when we fast-foward 20 years to my lovely and beautiful partner buying me a Nook (Classic) with the biggest memory card it would support, I put everything I had on it. Calibre has helped in cleaning it all up and making it uniform, and I couldn't be happier. When B&N updated their firmware a few weeks ago to include bookshelves (which really is just glorfied tagging), I was in heaven. I have probably about 150 B&N books (most from the free classics promotion over the summer) on the internal memory and about 1500 on the SD card.

I have everything backed up on a portable hard drive, but my Nook IS my library now. I have replaced most of my DTB collection now and am donating them to US Soldiers as they are requested as part of a book donation program.

It is probably the newness of my K3 and the concept of ereader but I've been placing every book I get on the k3. As a matter of fact, for the moment, and since it is still new, I've got mp3 and photos on it - neither of those file types are all that successfully "translated" for the k3 - you cannot chose the order of mp3 and photos are b/w and need to be tweaked. But, again, newest, and seeing all that the k3 can hold and potentially do.

I keep all of my (approx) 3100 books on my Nook and Sony 505 (combined) as well as in Calibre on my laptop and on a portable HD. I hate losing eBooks, unless I want to get rid of them.

We travel a lot and I need to keep my full library with me, since I tend to read more than 1 book at a time and if I really like a book I will re-read it.

Between Calibre and Nook's new Shelving system, I am the happiest of campers.

My library has almost 10,000 books and that many wouldn't fit on my Kindle anyway.

I have about 700 books on the K3, nicely organised into collections and series etc.

These are all unread. As I finish 1 I delete it. I tend to put the whole series on but if I read the first in the series and don't like it then I delete the entire series.

I read about 100 - 150 books per year so 700 is still very optimistic but it works for me.
