Hedgehog I think you are asking if another SIM card can be inserted into the 950 to make its 3G radio work in another country. If so I don't think it will be an easy task as the 950 does not seem to have a built in door to access the battery or SIM card. I think you will have to open the case to access either. And if you successfully do this I'm not sure what the phone company would do as Sony has a deal made for USA cellular coverage but your replacement SIM would be with another company. Sony might be able to block their device from accessing their store in such a case.
WiFi would probably be a better option if you can get Sony to accept an IP address from outside the USA. Personally, when I had my 900 I almost never used the 3G to purchase books. I typically got them using my computer then transferred them to the 900. The 900 had a very limited web browser and I assume the 950 will too. The Kindle web browser is more open, but I think browsing on these eInk devices is not that great. Last edited by jswinden; 10-25-2010 at 01:29 PM. |

Has anyone try web browsing on PRS-950? Can you surf any site via Wifi or only Wiki? How long does a page take to load? Thanks!!!
I guess the battery will drain quickly with constant web surfing. |

I've tried it just to see if it works. You can browse only via Wifi, but it does work fairly well. It's not incredibly speedy, but it does work. I would say it is on par with the K3 browser, maybe a little faster, but that is with very limited testing.

However, pages do load fast and if you prefer real estate to color it's probably a step up from a smartphone screen. I charged it overnight the fast day, read about 160 pages of a pdf, left the wifi on intermittently and still had 3 bars of battery life this morning. |

I saw this on another thread. It's a leather case for the K3, only $6 (CAD). I don't know how the 950 and the k3 measure up against each other in height, I would guess they are about the same height in which case the case could be used for the 950. Anyway, here is the amazon link if anyone is interested.
http://www.amazon.ca/CrazyOnDigital-...8026595&sr=8-1 http://www.amazon.com/CrazyOnDigital...8036727&sr=8-1 It's cheaper in Canada - that's not something that I've seen too often! |

Needless to say, any ounce of impulse control I had quickly abated, and this afternoon after I finished my day on Campus I swung by the outlet store nearest my home. After 15 minutes of hunting, and several misses, the service representative finally found 2 units buried behind some video games in locked metal cages near the check lanes. I'll contribute a review later this evening after my Unit is completely charged. If anyone has any questions about the device please send me a P.M.. I will do my best to answer. -Abisha |

Abisha --
I went from the 505 to the 650 ... you're in for a very pleasant surprise with the new models! Congrats on the perseverance at the store! |

Great video -- I don't think it would've been worth the extra $100 to me for the web browser, but the larger display is really impressive!

Cover for 950
If anyone is looking for a simple and quick cover for the 950 until the official covers are released I found a simple solution. I've long used the Moleskine medium notebooks for work journals. This size moleskine is the exact size for a 950 cover. I took one of my old journals and used a razor blade to cut out the inside journal portion, and used a piece of wide tape to cover the inside of the spine where the journal was cut away. A couple of small velcro dots on the reader and moleskine and you have a simple cover until the official ones are shipping.
