I would highly recommend a Jetbook. It reads drm'd pdfs and epubs and Barnes and Noble drm..It is small , lightweight, has a removable sd card which is really nice to load books and audio books onto. Jetbook has no clock, so books can't expire, in case you get 3 or 4 in one week and none the rest of the month. The page turns are like lightening and it is very user friendly for many formats and file structure. Also the newest firmware reads all pdfs as if they were epubs or rtfs.

It doesn't matter what kind of ebook selection, if any at all, your local library has. Anyone in the world can get a Free Library of Philadelphia card, which gives you access to their 3,200+ ebooks for $15 a year. You don't have to go there--just mail the form in with a check. If you're overseas, you may want to contact them about payment options.

Sony 350 for $179 sounds like a good bet for you, unless you want to wait for the Kobo 2 perhaps? Nook doesn't sound like a great deal for someone who has no plans to purchase books (from B & N).
Call me dense, but what flaw?

The flaw is not being able to have ePub & PDF on the reader at the same time if they both have the time limited form of DRM.

It's really not that big of a deal breaker IMO, since the majority of new library titles are EPUB.

I don't know if it will help, but I emailed overdrive about iPad & kindle support. I wouldn't want to have to buy another gadget just for library books. Though having another gadget is always fun.

I carry a fairly large purse (even trade-size paperbacks aren't usually a problem in this piece of luggage), and I doubt I could comfortably get an iPad in there without unacceptably high risk of device damage.

That flaw has been fixed in the firmware for the new Readers.

That's what I was going to say!

By the way, I too am a happy owner of a jetBook Lite.

OverDrive already has apps (Android, Blackberry, iPhone/iPad, Win Mob) available for audiobooks, music, and video. They said ebook support will follow later on. When? I have no idea.

I read the Digital Reader blog and in September they posted an update on the Overdrive app.

http://www.the-digital-reader.com/20...e-reading-app/

The Android app will come out first and was in private beta at the time the update was posted. The iDevices will come next.

Thanks, I appreciate it. I wonder if B&N has plans to port this app to the Nook Color? It would be a killer app.

I don't see an iPad app. Just the iPhone app.
