I live in Denver and see someone with a K1 or K2 (mostly K2s) once a week, more or less, in the bus. I don't necessarily take the same bus all the time.

I've gotten a few comments when reading in public, but I don't think most people have a clue what it is. I also see rather few people reading anything.
I tend to see a few of them while riding from the 'burbs to downtown Atlanta. So they're out there, but seem to be mostly on MARTA (Atlanta's train system).

I've seen 2 sonys (one yesterday actually and one years ago) and one unknown (couldn't get a good look).

I wonder if people don't like using them in public? It feels like I should be seeing more of them around.

Your airline's policy about not opening a digital device makes sense. What if a proprietary or sensitive pdf document were on the device? Like invasion plans against another nation, a divorce petition, or a book with nekked pictures? I can imagine the embarrassment if someone peeked into my Irex, Kindle, Sony, Apple, Droid, or other reader. Whoa, I think I'll start to password protect my devices.

I've "found" a total of 3 Kindles while working for an airline here at the Anchorage International Airport. All 3 of them had been left behind on the plane after the passengers had already left. We have a policy that we aren't allowed to invade the privacy of any passenger, so if a cellphone is left behind, we aren't allowed to answer the phone or check the address book to see who the owner is.

w0w! great info! I guess I will travel with some sticky labels from now on! karma for that!

I have not yet seen a Kindle or any other e-reader in the wild. When I'm out at a coffee shop, my favourite venue for reading books--e or otherwise--I see a lot of people on laptops, reading their cell messages, but not yet have I seen an e-reader.

I fly quite a bit for work and see the occasional Kindle. Sat next to one on the plane about a month ago and we talked "Kindle" for several minutes. Saw another one in the terminal getting ready to board soon after. I'll be flying again this Wednesday so will proactively see how many I can spot.

Oddly, I haven't made a single Kindle sighting since the K3 came out. Before that, I saw them from time to time, mostly people reading on the NYC subway. Where have all the Kindles gone?

Part of the problem. . .

is that none of them are particularly easy to carry around. Oh they are light enough, but the dimensions don't allow for stuffing them into a pocket so that carrying them becomes second nature. You have to PLAN to carry a reader. I suspect a lot of them get sold and then sit idle.

I think I see them at Airports more than anywhere else because at an airport, just about everyone carries a laptop bag or other bag that has room for a reader.

I've seen Kindles at my office several times (from people who got them due to seeing mine), so I won't count those.

Out in the wild I've seen a Kindle 2 at a pizza restaurant, and a Kindle DX (white) at the gym.

I saw someone reading a Nook once at a theater.

So 3 instances.

I've seen Sony readers in the wild, as well as the Ebookwise and the Aluratek readers, but never a Kindle! The Kindle is like Polkaroo (Karma to anyone who gets that reference).

remember, folks, we ARE the "just before the upslope curve early adopters. Not quite at the bleeding edge, but close enough to worry about the splatter.
