The Holy Bible: HCSB Digital Text Edition is free courtesy of Holman Bible Publishers.
Book Description This text edition of the HCSB has been optimized for easy reading on digital devices. Free from the visual clutter of footnotes, cross references, and other links, this edition is fast to navigate and easy to use. The HCSB was developed by 100 scholars and English stylists from 17 denominations, who prayerfully translated what is one of the most significant Bible translations available today. The HCSB reflects linguistic advances in vocabulary, grammar, punctuation and formatting while it retains meaningful theological terms. In the HCSB you'll find God's personal name (Yahweh), the use of "Messiah" in the New Testament, and the use of "slave" in the New Testament, just to name a few examples. Also, you'll notice the contemporary speech patterns in the HCSB mean that words like "behold" and "shall" are not used. Instead, words or phrases that are common today can be found in their place. The HCSB employs a first-of-its kind translation philosophy known as Optimal Equivalence, which seeks to achieve an optimal balance of literary precision and emotive clarity through a comprehensive analysis of the text at every level. This process assures maximum transfer of both words and thoughts contained in the original. |

These downloads are in the UK Kindle store, for UK customers only. Those who are in the UK and who have kept their US Kindle account cannot get the books without transferring their account to the UK store (a step which appears, for now, to be one that can be repeated, switching between stores at will) and those physically outside the UK are barred from using the UK store (no doubt by IP detection on Amazon's web site). All twelve titles are from the CK-12 Foundation, whose website says that they are "a non-profit organization with a mission to reduce the cost of textbook materials for the K-12 market both in the U.S. and worldwide" and at least one textbook appears to have been partially funded by taxpayers in Virginia. Yet, none of these are available to those of us in the US. All of these are quite large in size (the first one is 36MB and a couple are over 60MB).
CK-12 Trigonometry CK-12 Foundation's Trigonometry FlexBook is an introduction to trigonometry for the high school student. Topics include: Trigonometric Identities & Equations, Circular Functions, and Polar Equations & Complex Numbers. CK-12 People's Physics Book Version 2 The People's Physics Book is intended to be used as one small part of a multifaceted strategy to teach physics conceptually and mathematically. CK-12 Life Science CK-12 Life Science covers seven units: Understanding Living Things; Cells: The Building Blocks of Life; Genetics and Evolution; Prokaryotes, Protists, Fungi, and Plants; The Animal Kingdom; The Human Body; and Ecology. CK-12 Geometry CK-12 Foundation's Geometry FlexBook is a clear presentation of the essentials of geometry for the high school student. Topics include: Proof, Congruent Triangles, Quadrilaterals, Similarity, Perimeter & Area, Volume, and Transformations. CK-12 Engineering: An Introduction for High School Introduces engineering techniques and practices to high school students. This book is designed for a broad range of student abilities and does not require significant math or science prerequisites. CK-12 Earth Science CK-12 Earth Science covers the study of Earth - its minerals and energy resources, processes inside and on its surface, its past, water, weather and climate, the environment and human actions, and astronomy. CK-12 Chemistry CK-12 Chemistry covers Matter, Atomic Structure; The Elements and Their Properties; Stoichiometry; Chemical Kinetics; Physical States of Matter; Thermodynamics; Nuclear Chemistry; and Organic Chemistry. CK-12 Calculus CK-12 Foundation's Single Variable Calculus FlexBook introduces high school students to the topics covered in the Calculus AB course. Topics include: Limits, Derivatives, and Integration. CK-12 Biology I - Honors CK-12 Biology I is a textbook for high school students covering cell biology, genetics, evolution, ecology, and physiology. CK-12 Algebra I CK-12 Foundation's Algebra FlexBook is an introduction to algebraic concepts for the high school student. Topics include: Equations & Functions, Real Numbers, Equations of Lines, Solving Systems of Equations & Quadratic Equations. CK-12 Advanced Probability and Statistics CK-12 Foundation's Probability and Statistics (Advanced Placement) FlexBook introduces students to basic topics in statistics and probability but finishes with the rigorous topics an advanced placement course requires. CK-12 21st Century Physics: A Compilation of Contemporary and Emerging Technologies The 21st Century Physics FlexBook is a collaborative effort of the Secretaries of Education and Technology and the Department of Education that seeks to elevate the quality of physics instruction across the Commonwealth of Virginia. |

UK Kindle free book:
Roseanna by Per Wahlöö Widely recognised as the greatest masterpieces of crime fiction ever written, these are the original detective stories that pioneered the detective genre and inspired writers from Agatha Christie to Henning Mankell and Graham Greene to Jonathan Franzen. Translated into 35 languages, they have sold over 10 million copies around the world.Written in the 1960s, they are the work of Maj Sjowall and Per Wahloo - a husband and wife team from Sweden. The ten novels follow the fortunes of the detective Martin Beck, whose enigmatic, taciturn character has inspired countless other policemen in crime fiction. The novels can be read separately, but do follow a chronological order, so the reader can become familiar with the characters and develop a loyalty to the series. Each book will have a new introduction in order to help bring these books to a new audience.-Roseanna- begins on a July afternoon, the body of a young woman is dredged from Sweden's beautiful Lake Vattern. Three months later, all that Police Inspector Martin Beck knows is that her name is Roseanna, that she came from Lincoln, Nebraska, and that she could have been strangled by any one of eighty-five people. With its authentically rendered settings and vividly realized characters, and its command over the intricately woven details of police detection, -Roseanna- is a masterpiece of suspense and sadness. Book Description THERE IS A SECRET WAR GROWING BENEATH THE STREETS OF LONDON. A dark magic will be unleashed by the Untainted...Unless a new hero can be found. The smarter, faster brother to Neil Gaiman's Neverwhere has arrived. The immense Sixty-One Nails follows Niall Petersen, victim of a suspected heart attack on the London Underground, into the hidden world of the Feyre, an uncanny place of legend that lurks just beyond the surface of everyday life. The Untainted, the darkest of the Seven Courts, have made their play for power, and unless Niall can recreate the ritual of the Sixty-One Nails, their dark dominion will enslave all of the Feyre, and all of humankind too. |

Nelson Mandela's Leadership Lessons is a business short from by New Word City Book Description Nelson Mandela was born into a royal family, attended elite schools, became a lawyer, and could have settled into a comfortable life as a member of South Africa's black middle class. But his sense of dignity and injustice was fierce, and he dedicated himself to the struggle for freedom and democracy. He paid a heavy price for his choice, often putting his life in danger and spending 27 years in prison, away from his family, barely knowing his children. Guided by a deep pragmatism, he evolved into one of the greatest leaders in modern history, a man who inspired and uplifted the world. His story offers valuable lessons for leaders everywhere. Nelson Mandela is a fierce opponent of injustice, a proponent of nonviolent resistance, a moral beacon for the world, a man who changed the course of history and created today's South Africa. He occupies a place in the Parthenon of great leaders-a symbol of the struggle for freedom and human rights, an inspiration to us all. But his has been a complicated life, filled with nuance and ambiguity. Mandela won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993, yet he once advocated the violent overthrow of South Africa's apartheid government and was instrumental in creating a guerilla army dedicated to that end. A child of privilege born into a royal family, he benefitted mightily from his family's connections but was suspended from college and ran away to the slums of Johannesburg to avoid an arranged marriage.
