Very sorry for going off topic here, but can I go on a bit of a rant? Remembered my Kindle after not using it for a year (my siblings did though a few months back). Charged it for 15 minutes and as soon as was possible turned. Found out that it was not jailbreakable as it was on 5.15.1 (> 5.14.2) and was a bit disappointed, but didn't mind. Was bored so spent 15 minutes researching and found this absolute masterpiece. I got VERY excited as I wanted to do this for a few years now. Began doing the steps (made sure there were no .bin or partial files too), but upon completion of the steps it didn't work and I got no logs. Mind you this entire time I was on airplane mode. Ok I think, I'll just try updating to 5.16.2.1.1. I go to do that and it says invalid update file. I realised that I was taking the wrong update file, so I went and took the correct one, and... still invalid update file?? I try like 7 times, but then I realised... AT SOME POINT - AMAZON DECIDED THAT WE'RE GOING TO 5.16.5. I know this is just a Kindle, but I'm FURIOUS NOW. Amazon corporate people, if you're reading this, [Deleted - ed.]. Now, everybody else reading, sorry for taking up precious screen space and sorry for the rant - just no one tell about this pain.

Ok got it working on my PW3, just followed the instructions and KUAL and KOReader are now working.

I have FW 5.16.2.1.1
I tried the LanguageBreak oneclick because nothing happened when typing from the search bar, I set the airplane mode and inserted the file update_hotfix_languagebreak-it-IT.bin
in the root and restart, now the screen apperar:

A PICTURE

This demonstration device is either missing content or is disconnected from the network

CONFIGURE DEVICE



and it is not possible to do nothing and no access the kindle's memory. Is there any way to solve?

1) Yes, after you enter the word ;enter_demo and hit Enter, the keyboard will disappear, then you need to restart Kindle by hand.
2) Now you are just in demo mode, continue from the secret gesture step and on.
Secret gestures is this: tap with TWO fingers quickly in the lower right corner and then swipe with ONE finger from the same corner towards lower left corner.

To install KOReader, mostly. https://github.com/koreader/koreader
It is a much better reading app, take any reading format

With JB you can do fw downgrade and/or install KOReader.

I was ecstatic when I heard about LanguageBreak and was able to successfully jailbreak Paperwhite gen 12 (PW5) with ver 15.6.2.1.1 software. I installed mrpi, kual, koreader and other tools available and was learning about my now significantly expanded new features. I installed the jailbreak hot fix and clicked on prevent installing ota on kual. I thought I was safe from upgrade.

Next day I connected to Wi-Fi and was immediately upgraded to 15.6.4 by Amazon. It appears that the jailbreak survived, but clicking on kual does not work (application error: the selected application cannot be started) and re-installing anything with mrpi doesn’t see to work.

Am I doomed? Is it possible to downgrade the version? How?
IF I can downgrade, how should I protect kindle from the upgrade in the future?

Quick update on renameOTAbin:
1) I have been using my JB’ed Kindle Scribe on Wi-Fi non-stop since December 3.
2) In the very beginning, I enabled renameOTAbin, disabled Amazon logging, and also enabled “Prevent OTA” in KUAL - Helper.
3) No sporadic firmware downloads or updates whatsoever.

I am using it on Wi-Fi nonstop because I enjoy SSH over Wi-Fi, so the USB-C port’s longevity is improved because I only use it for charging (I presume once a month, looking at current low drain).

I was able to JB my 11th gen PW Kindle with 5.15.1 FW and install KOreader finally. This is something that I have been waiting to do for a long time now.

The install didn't go exactly as the instruction was laid out, but the minor differences didn't make a lot of difference.

I really appreciate all the work that was put into this. Thank you.

Jailbreak went fine, but device (Paperwhite 10th gen) became VERY slow.
Any idea how to fix that? Thanks

I updated my Kindle PW5 8GB from version 14.3.0.1 to version 16.2.1.1, then successfully ran Languagebreak, and installed Kual, Koreader, and Renameotabin. I was able to transfer books via USB using Caliber and I found that the Koreader reads almost all formats while the AZW3s can be read with the Kindle application.

However, I noticed that the Kindle remained in managed mode and some options, such as Airplane Mode, are not available. Reading post 575 by mergen3107, I followed the procedure above, but when I try to resell the device I get a message saying that the battery is too charged, so I can't exit demo mode.
So currently I can use Koreader, while the kindle is in demo mode.
I thought about inserting the 16.2.1.1 file again and rebooting, starting from the beginning, but I'm afraid of doing irreparable damage.

@Althusser From your computer via USB cable copy from extracted LanguageBreak archive to your Kindle that file named something like "DONT_CHECK_BATTERY", disconnect from computer and then try doing the "resell".
