Thanks for posting that link. I'll confess that I didn't watch the entire video but the portion comparing Carta to Kaleido was enough to show me that Kaleido 3 looks good enough for me and I'll definitely be ordering a Libra Colour.

The Carta 1300 screen is making me somewhat more interested in upgrading my Clara HD than I was before seeing that. I sometimes feel like the text is a little washed out on the Clara HD compared to my older devices w/o layers above the eInk. I wonder how much of a difference it makes.

This is the key. The question is not whether the contrast is higher or lower, the screen is darker or lighter or the colour is more vibrant or duller. It is whether it is acceptable to you. And here comes into play a personal and subjective assessment that technical data does not provide. That's why I always say that personal experience is irreplaceable (I also decided to buy a colour e-reader after watching a video in which I was convinced that it was acceptable for me, according to the way I use it).

When you read the reviews of Kaleido 3 by those who were sceptical about the colour technology you find that many were surprised and changed their views on it. With all the caveats that it is important to point out, they agreed that Kaleido 3 was acceptable to a wider range of users. And that is a view I share. There will be people for whom it is not good enough. I understand and respect that. But many others will also be pleasantly surprised. Those who have doubts will have no choice but to try a colour e-reader themselves and decide whether it is for them or not.

I'm in the same boat. Oldish Clara HD, battery doesn't hold that much anymore, wondering if I should get this or a (hopefully discounted soon) Clara 2E....

I'd wait for the Clara BW. See if it has a better battery. It already has a better screen.

Same. I was hoping for an updated Sage first and foremost, but even an updated Libra would have been interesting. Color devices and a 6'' b/w device hold no attraction for me.

Perhaps I'll get a TCL Nxtpaper 15 later in the year. A Sage without the weight of all those magnets for the stupid power cover and a slightly bigger battery would be good. Also some bugs squashed.

Or a 8" to 9" ereader that folds up to fit in your pocket.

Once he turned the frontlighting on, I was more impressed than I expected to be by the Kaleido display.

But on a video the 1/2 resolution isn't obvious. Also I almost never use a front light.

I can see that if you use a larger font due to poor eyes and want colour and use the backlight then it's a reasonable proposition. But not for reading novels on eink instead of paperback.

I read novels on my colour e-reader (with the lighting always on) and I still think that the difference with a monochrome reader is not very significant. And I personally prefer it because of what the colour brings me (yes, even in novels you can apply colour to a lot of things). But I think it's fine for everyone to read where they feel most comfortable.

I guess it's all subjective, but to me, the Carta still looked better.

I guess I need to start looking at all of the emails they send promoting books in case one also includes info on the new reader.

If you have dyslexia, it is said that colors can help. So making the text and the background colored, that may help some read better. I cannot say what colors to use.
