Hi, I've also bought a 8GB Paperwhite 4 that will arrive later today or tomorrow.
I've read through this thread, so to confirm the most current situation: Do not connect to WIFI and check version: If 5.10.1.3: still possible to jailbreak following instructions from last few pages If 5.10.3: no jailbreak options currently And also, if I receive 5.10.3, should I add the no update file just in case? and after adding the no update, I can connect to WIFI and add my account and books? |

The OTA block folder on its own an a recent FW (< 5.12) on an un-jailbroken device *might* lead to battery drain.
On the other hand, >= 5.12 is evil. So you're kind of stuck between a rock and a hard place if you don't stay in Airplane mode. Yay Amazon? |

Wow.. if I place the block folder and then stay in airplane mode after setting up my accounts and books, does that still cause a battery drain?
Anyways, just received my device: 5.10.3 9234 8gb international version (no ads) |

No, it won't call home if it's in airplane mode (... hopefully.

Hi All,
I am a new joiner to the site and the first time owner of a Kindle device. I have a PW4 8gb (G00102) wifi that has been jailbroken via the factory FW 5.10.0.2 (the current threads method). But I have a weird issue - after Hotfix and loading MRPI and Kual Coaplet I don't see the Kual booklet (My document section is grayed out). I even re-installed Hotfix (no errors so the jailbreak is working) and MRPI and Kual Coaplet. But still it's a no go. Reading through the forums some one mentioned that the JB Factory FW needs to be updated to a consumer/commercial one after JB and Hot fix and may be it will fix the KUAL booklet not showing up issue. My question is if I remove the no update folder and update to a newer firmware (from current factory FW 5.10.0.2) over WiFi then do I have control on what it gets updated to? I don't want to update to >=5.12 directly. If I don't have control on what it updates to then where can I find a commercial/consumer firmware file that is lower than 5.12? Please share link if some one has a copy. Also in case someone is familiar with this issue then do let me know how they solved it. ![]() Thank You! |

After jailbreak and hotfix install, the next thing top install is a consumer firmware. Installing anything else before installing consumer firmware is a waste of time.
Do not remove the update folder, it does not block manual updates. Search the jailbreak threads to find where to download a customer firmware for your kindle direct from amazon. |

Update over wifi, you have no control. You get what Amazon sends you. Thankfully, you can do manual updates. Customer FW 5.10.1.3 https://s3.amazonaws.com/firmwaredow...2_5.10.1.3.bin For future reference, you can typically just copy the latest link from Amazon and replace the digits with the firmware version you want to download. Don't go above 5.10.1.3 yet until you're sure the jailbreak works. |

Also, just to confirm, you're using all the latest released from the Snapshots thread, right?

I assume you actually see MRPI running, and doing so successfully?
If yes, the usual issue is wonky filtering on your Homescreen. I don't rightly recall where the Booklet variant ends up being sorted, so, err, whatever's the closest to "All" should do it? If no, I'll need to see the MRPI logs (in the extensions/mrinstaller/log folder). |

I was Lucky to get an PW4 (G0000 PP11 9144) with FW 5.10.1.3 But the download link for the 4factory_PW4_5.10.1.3_initial on the wiki page is dead (https://wiki.mobileread.com/wiki/5_x_Jailbreak). Can please somebody reupp the file or send me a current link. Thanks in advance. Hanspeter |
