That's probably because the Note Pro hasn't come out yet. There's mention of it here and there and will likely be more so after April when it will hopefully make its debut. Perhaps before then from some of our fellow Chinese members who usually get access to play with these devices before we do.

Great thread, thanks all for your comments!
Seems like a great ereader for PDFs, and the note pro as well, even though the price tag is a bit on the high side. But android makes me afraid that the system is too heavy and uses way more power than other (non-android) ereaders. How is battery life compared to a more minimalistic (Kobo/Kindle/PB...) ereader? Another question is about long term stability. If they decide to stop releasing upgrades for a specific device (we can imagine that given how fast they release new devices), isn't the ereader at risk of having more trouble on the long run than an ereader running a stripped down linux system? Probably not that much if you didn't install many apps and keep the device offline, but I can't we say "the simplier the better"? If they take off, alternative roms will probably be available at some point, which could fix the risk of the device becoming unsupported some point in the future. Thanks! |

Unfortunately, custom ROMs are unlikely at the moment, not least because afaik the bootloader is closed.
To answer your questions from my perspective, I don't have anon-Android reader at the moment, but yes this will have considerably shorter battery life. It's still decent, I think with WiFi off some people report around a week, but if you use the features, it'll obviously decrease. For my use it's perfectly fine. The probability for a major os upgrade is small indeed. The risk is that at some point you may not be able to run the newest versions of apps anymore. That should not impede the main functionality, but can be a nuisance, as people with the older onyx device stop running 4.0.4 (and waiting for 4.4) can attest. |

Thanks. Probably enough battery life for my use.
I'm worried that they stop offering updates rather quickly, given how many new devices they launch - and android 6 is already quite old. Not sure if that's a problem or not, if the device stays offline if should not be a problem as long as it runs fine. |

Hi all,
After reading forum a bit, I pulled a trigger and ordered onyx note from Amazon Canada. As the moment there’s a promo free case with purchase of device. I have also included screen protection, but after reading a forum it seems difficult to apply properly, I am not planning to use stylus (might rather sell it). Should I skip the screen protector, case would be enough? Also I could not find information on warranty on amazon. Is it 12 months or 24 like for devices purchased from German store? I also understand, inbuilt PDF reader reader is superb and inbuilt dictionary supports stardic formats. Thus I see no need to install additional applicants. My main purpose is to read PDF text books, some of them with illustrations so I will switch back and forth with iPad. I want to try it first, and see how it’s compared to reading experience on iPad Air 2 with goodreader app. Perhaps it’s not that different, thus I keep option of returning it to Amazon after trying. |

If you want to keep open your option of returning the device to Amazon, best not to apply the screen protector. You really only need that for when using the stylus.
The native reading app does work quite well for PDFs and works fine with stardict dictionaries. Rather than selling the stylus, you might want to keep it just in case. I can't imagine that you would get all that much money for it, and if you ever decide that you want to use it or that you would like to sell your Note, it would be good to have the stylus. Usually best to keep your options open if possible. |

I usually read with the KA1's light on, but just turned it off to compare the contrast on the two devices... To my eyes, I really don't see a huge difference. On the exact same book, with a similar size and style of font, the experience is very much the same. I really just use my KA1 for reading Japanese these days because it handles Japanese much better than Onyx's reading app or any of the third party reading apps that I have installed on my Note. For all my other reading, I use the Note. In fact, I'm so happy with my Note that I just pre-ordered the Note Pro from the ereader.store in Germany. I am really looking forward to having a frontlight. The increased RAM and memory are added bonuses. |

Would consider selling my MAx1 if I was offered a decent price for it. Haven't used it much since getting my Note and don't really see that changing. However, it's also taking no hurt just sitting there. Every once in a while I charge up the battery to keep it healthy. Am typing on a laptop. I do have a BT keyboard and have used it with the Note, but when I'm on the web, I'm usually using a laptop. |

Here is a comparison showing the KA1 with its light off and the Note. Exact same book. Similar font style and size.

I can’t manage how to read three columns PDF on this device in layout mode. I tried to split page into two rows three columns, and then reflow it left up to left down, right up right down, it didn’t work for me. Also really tricky to place the grid where needed.
Trying to zoom it and move with two fingers even worse. ### I assume there’s no native support for Microsoft word power point. ### Last edited by John.Dorrian; 02-27-2019 at 10:11 AM. |

1. Number of rows and columns 2. Direction I have tried different variations and can’t get a grasp of it. ![]() PS portrait mode works well. PPS Perhaps I should get Max2 instead, although I like case in Note, and its portability. |
