If you are re-converting the book make sure it is converted from PRC not from the previously converted EPUB and you will have to uncheck the setting in the individual conversion settings for that book.

ePUB OPF

Govind,

When I make an ePUB file (from FB2, at least) the program works great but

the manifest section inside CONTENT OPF present the content files in thos fashion:
Code:
<item href="index_split_12.xhtml" id="id294" media-type="application/xhtml+xml"/>
    <item href="index_split_21.xhtml" id="id285" media-type="application/xhtml+xml"/>
    <item href="index_split_77.xhtml" id="id229" media-type="application/xhtml+xml"/>
    <item href="index_split_95.xhtml" id="id211" media-type="application/xhtml+xml"/>
    <item href="index_split_14.xhtml" id="id292" media-type="application/xhtml+xml"/>
instead of presenting them SORTED:
Code:
<item href="index_split_0.xhtml" id="id2106" media-type="application/xhtml+xml"/>
 <item href="index_split_1.xhtml" id="id2105" media-type="application/xhtml+xml"/>
 <item href="index_split_2.xhtml" id="id2104" media-type="application/xhtml+xml"/>
 <item href="index_split_3.xhtml" id="id2103" media-type="application/xhtml+xml"/>
 <item href="index_split_4.xhtml" id="id2102" media-type="application/xhtml+xml"/>
Which comes very handy when you are debbuging the file

Do you thing you can make the program do a little sort before writing in the CONTENT.OPF file?

Thanks,

Problem with converting from mobi to ePub

Last week I bought a Cybook Opus and received a Dutch ebook with it called 'In Europa' in Mobi format. I only want to use my ereader for ePub, so I want to convert it. When using Calibre it comes with an error that the mobi ebook has a DRM. When I try to remove it by using MobiDeDRM (v0.01-v0.05) there is a message that 'no key was found'. I used the correct PID. What to do? Thanks in advance for any reply!

The DRM used by Kindle for PC has been circumvented. There are a couple of approaches, but the easiest to use is unswindle.pyw. Make sure the ebook isn't a TOPAZ, because only AZW's can be converted. A simple "tell" is that TOPAZ ebooks don't list a filesize on their Amazon page. A DRM-free AZW is a MOBI (I suggest using extension .mobi), which can be converted to ePub or LRF using Calibre.

Calibre produced .epub files won't download in Internet Explorer 8

I have produced some .epub file using Calibre and stored them on my web site. When I click on the link with Firefox it asks me if I want to save or open with the Sony Reader PC software. If I say save, they are saved with the epub extension. But with IE8 I only get the choice of opening them as a zip file or saving them with a zip extension. Why is this?

it has nothing to do with the software used to produce the file, it has to do with the fact that IE8 probably doesn't recognize the epub mime-type and or your server is not sending the correct mime type for files with a .epub extension. For apache+linux look for an epub definition in /etc/mime.types

That file probably has an older form of MOBI DRM called content encryption, google for it, anf you should see how to remove it.

Hi Kovid,

I just want to know when will the PDF conversion engine be available. I'm converting my PDF to EPUB using Calibre's ebook-convert.exe. I'm using the following commant:

Quote:
C:\>ebook-convert c:\Alice.pdf c:\Alice.epub --no-images --pretty-print --dont-split-on-page-breaks
and still having a problem with the EPUB output. The paragraphs are broken like:

Quote:
The rabbit-hole went straight on like a tunnel for some way, and then dipped suddenly down, so suddenly that Alice had not a moment to think about stopping herself before she found herself falling down a very deep well. Either the well was very deep, or she fell very slowly, for she had plenty of time as she went down to look about her and to wonder what was going to happen next. First, she tried to look down and make out what she was coming to, but it was too dark to see anything; then she looked at the sides of the well, and noticed that they were filled with cupboards and book-shelves; here and there she saw maps and pictures hung upon pegs. She took down a jar from one of the shelves as she passed; it was labelled

‘ORANGE MARMALADE’, but to her great

disappointment it was empty: she did not like to drop the jar for fear of killing somebody, so managed to put it into one of the cupboards as she fell past it.
I think I am missing something on the optional arguments but I'm not sure. I'd appreciate if you could help me about this. I'm also hoping that the new engine for PDF conversion would fix this problem.

Thanks in advance.

It should become available in the next month. Play the line unwrapping factor option.

Hi Kovid,

I tried the --unwrap-factor option but I'm still getting a bad output. Anyway, thanks for helping me and I'm looking forward for the new PDF conversion engine to come and I hope this problem can be fixed in the future.

Yes indeed, that was the problem. I used the .htaccess to tell my server to send the correct mime type and all now works fine. Many thanks for the advice. Calibre is great software by the way, many thanks for that too.
