Bestseller on Punctuation in 3 Kindle Categories Marked Down to $1.99 (83%)!
Spelling is one of my strengths. Admittedly, grammar and punctuation are not. Add to that the fact that some of the rules have changed since I was taught grammar and you can see why I was happy to see this bestselling book on punctuation marked down, and by so much (83% of the digital list price). And, why I felt that this was a must-post (yes, I know that that was bad grammar. ha).
The Best Punctuation Book, Period: A Comprehensive Guide for Every Writer, Editor, Student, and Businessperson. By June Casagrande. Rated 4.7 stars, from 30 reviews at the present moment at Amazon. Print list price $14.99; digital list price $11.99; Kindle price now $1.99. Ten Speed Press, publisher. 256 pages. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00G1J1QFM. Book Description This all-in-one reference is a quick and easy way for book, magazine, online, academic, and business writers to look up sticky punctuation questions for all styles including AP (Associated Press), MLA (Modern Language Association), APA (American Psychological Association), and Chicago Manual of Style. Punctuate with Confidence—No Matter the Style Confused about punctuation? There’s a reason. Everywhere you turn, publications seem to follow different rules on everything from possessive apostrophes to hyphens to serial commas. Then there are all the gray areas of punctuation—situations the rule books gloss over or never mention at all. At last, help has arrived. This complete reference guide from grammar columnist June Casagrande covers the basic rules of punctuation plus the finer points not addressed anywhere else, offering clear answers to perplexing questions about semicolons, quotation marks, periods, apostrophes, and more. Better yet, this is the only guide that uses handy icons to show how punctuation rules differ for book, news, academic, and science styles—so you can boldly switch between essays, online newsletters, reports, fiction, and magazine and news articles. This handbook also features rulings from an expert “Punctuation Panel” so you can see how working pros approach sticky situations. And the second half of the book features an alphabetical master list of commonly punctuated terms worth its weight in gold, combining rulings from the major style guides and showing exactly where they differ. With The Best Punctuation Book, Period, you’ll be able to handle any punctuation predicament in a flash—and with aplomb. Here's a new Packt Publishing freebie. It's in keeping with their promotion of giving away "R"-related ebooks once a day.
The title is Learning R for Geospatial Analysis: Geospatial analysis. It's actually pretty easy to get started - well, it is with today's free eBook. Download it now and find out how to put R to work to investigate and explore geospatial data. Whether you're a data geek or just insatiably curious, we recommend you dive in and begin reading! Claim your free ebook by heading over to this webpage and clicking on the "Claim Your Free eBook" button. FREE PDF Book on the Life of Stephen F. Austin.
Yee haw!
The Texas State Historical Society announced "the launch of a new series of seven eBooks offering an exclusive look at the Texas Revolution, including the battles and heroes that changed Texas." They are making the first one, The Life of Stephen F. Austin, available free! It is about 50 pages long. Frankly, it doesn't look, inside, like a book published by a major publishing house. I'm not saying that that's good, or that that's bad, it's just an observation. It is very attractive inside (and out). You will get the freebie in the PDF format. All that you have to do to get the ebook is to point your web browser to this TSHA website. On that webpage, you will be asked to enter your first and last name and a valid email address. The reason that the email address has to be valid is because that is where they will send you a link to the free book. Last edited by GtrsRGr8; 10-02-2016 at 01:20 AM. |

NoiseTrade is currently offering. free. the book Unbalanced: Searching for Truth Between Religion and Culture (and Really Good Mexican Food) by Jonathan Tony.
You can get it in either or both mobi and/or PDF. People, this book is rated 5.0 stars at Amazon from 43 reviews at the present moment! The Kindle mobi is $9.99 (full disclosure: it's free to read with Kindle Unlimited)! Go to this NoiseTrade webpage to find out the book and/or download it. Now if you're unfamiliar with NoiseTrades' offerings, let me mention to you that they do ask for a tip. You don't have to leave one, but it's a little tricky figuring out how to download without leaving a tip. If you have any problems with it, let me know and I will walk you through the process. I didn't post Packt Publishing's free ebook of the day yesterday. I just haven't gotten any positive feedback (any feedback, for that matter) about the posts and wonder if there is anyone out there who even wants to know about them, given the highly-focused and highly-technical nature of Packt's books.
But, if there is anyone out there who is interested in these freebies, let me leave you with two pieces of information. First, the URL of the website's free ebook of the day webpage. That URL is not easy to find if you go looking around Packt's website. I actually had navigated over that address today, and, looking around, couldn't find it anywhere on Packt's website. I was starting to get a little panicky (j/k). Then, I remembered that it would be in my history, and it was from there that I retrieved it. The second piece of information is that their freebie of the day changes at 7 p.m. Eastern Time. Exactly 7 p.m. Just the kind of thing that you would expect from people who would publish the technical books that Packt does, which depend so much upon precision and accuracy. After seeing the title, I couldn't resist the latest freebie from the University of Chicago Press. Nuns Behaving Badly is their October free ebook.

The Novel in Africa and the Caribbean since 1950 (Oxford History of the Novel in English) by Simon Gikandi Why did the novel take such a long time to emerge in the colonial world? And, what cultural work did it come to perform in societies where subjects were not free and modes of social organization diverged from the European cultural centers where the novel gained its form and audience? Answering these questions and more, Volume 11, The Novel in Africa and the Caribbean since 1950 explores the institutions of cultural production that exerted influence in late colonialism, from missionary schools and metropolitan publishers to universities and small presses. Simon Gikandi is Robert Schirmer Professor of English at Princeton University. His previous books include Slavery and the Culture of Taste (2011), Ngugi wa Thiong'o (2004), Writing in Limbo: Modernism and Caribbean Literature (1992), and Maps of Englishness: Writing Identity in the Culture of Colonialism (1996), https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01LZH5PN3/ $99.99 elsewhere, but check https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LZH5PN3/ |

Q-Ships and Their Story by E. Keble Chatterton (1922) Q-ships, also known as Q-boats, decoy vessels, special service ships, or mystery ships, were heavily armed merchant ships with concealed weaponry, designed to lure submarines into making surface attacks. This gave Q-ships the chance to open fire and sink them. They were used by the British Royal Navy (RN) during the First World War and by both the RN, the United States Navy and the German Kriegsmarine during the Second World War (1939-45). Edward Keble Chatterton (1878-1944) was a sailor and prolific writer from Sheffield. His voyages across the English Channel, to the Netherlands, around the Mediterranean and through the French canals led to many articles and books. Joining the R.N.V.R. at the outbreak of WWI he commanded a motor launch flotilla, leaving the service in 1919 as a Lieutenant Commander. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M0ZW41A/ https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01M0ZW41A/ https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B01M0ZW41A/ |

Not really a book, but an expanded magazine article which may be of interest.
It originally appeared in America in WWII magazine, in December of 2010. The article is a look at the first combat mission of the American Volunteer Group, aka Flying Tigers, written by Daniel Ford who has written quite a bit on the Flying Tigers. First Blood for the Flying Tigers: Twelve Days After Pearl Harbor, a Band of American Mercenaries Took Their Revenge on the Empire of Japan Amazon US Quote:
