My average price for books bought this year is $1.39. That's been brought down quite a bit by a couple of very special offers (The Lightspeed Magazine Kickstarter back issues and a HumbleBundle of some Doctor Who graphic novels) but even without those my average purchase price is $1.65. And my most expensive books have been the double-issue Analog and Asimov's at $6 each, followed by some Baen books at $4.50 each. But over 80% of my purchases have been under $3.

Kindle daily deals (& other deals) and Kobo coupons. I love them.

Hmm... I suppose this year my average price has been 'helped' by that 90% off Kobo coupon in February.

I'm almost half way through my 52nd book of the year.

Comparing to 2012 and 2013 I'm behind on number of books (in 2012 I had read over 60 books by this time of the year) but I've read several longer books year and I'm ahead in pages. I've got several longer (800+ page) books on my sTBR (soon to be read) list so I might not make 100 books this year.

In August I'm house/dog sitting for almost 3 weeks and I usually can get a lot of reading done during those weeks.

I'm at just under what will be needed to hit 150 books for the year, since I'm sitting at 74 books so far. I doubt I'll finish another book today, so I'm just slightly behind schedule. Of course, my target was only 100 books, so from that perspective I'm way ahead.

I've completed 50 books so far; Goodreads says I am four books ahead of schedule if my goal is 94 books (my all time high for a year). Maybe this will be the year I reach 100 books!

I need to go and update my reading log; I've been very bad about keeping that up this year.

13 books ahead according to Goodreads! Good thing because I read two fairly long books this month. Now I need to work on the pile that I've already purchased. $68.70 to go.

Good idea , I have been gone from baen for some time, might just pick up a package of books over there. I simply refuse to pay their standard book price, as its too high for me.

I have been getting Baen books through Kobo using coupons. Recently I've been using 65% and 75% coupons, thanks to the Kobo Competition.

Even a Kobo 40% off coupon is better if I just want the top two in a bundle - $11.40 instead of $18.

I'm now on a new challenge for the second half of 2014. The first half of the year I blasted through, finishing at over 9,000 pages read when my goal was 4,000, so this time I've added a few more pages (though not too many; I prefer to keep it, hopefully, relatively easy) and a longer specific list to complete - last half year I had a specific list of two (and one of those added near the end), this half year it will be 13.

My goal is 6,000 pages this half of the year. To concentrate on literary heritage, in a small way, I'm including three Irish books of any kind and three famous English classics, all that I haven't yet read and all yet to be chosen. Next, I love the book clubs here, but I often become interested in some of the nominations that don't win yet I hardly ever get around to reading them, so I'm also including three nominations of someone else's and three nominations of my own that don't win in the second half of 2014 in either MR book club, and these too should be books I haven't yet read. And finally, from my small and ever-shrinking stack of paper books yet to read, I'm including Surfing and Health by Dorian Paskowitz. I might eventually just throw all of the remaining books in the stack onto a challenge to finish them off (there's five left), but for now one good one will do.

Good luck everyone on the last half of the year!

I'm on track with my overall goal, but behind on my sub-goal (15 African fiction books). The reason is because I have been working longer hours and so I've just been snatching 10-15 minute reading sessions. It's easier then to read much lighter books, or books I have read before, since my concentration is pretty low.

I am, however, having a few wisdom teeth extracted tomorrow, so I anticipate that my weekend will consist of lying down doped up on pain killers. Hopefully, that should give me a few hours to get stuck into some new (unread) books.

Well, with 205 bought and 122 read, and another 26 planned purchases, it seems I'm unlikely to make this one. But let's take a closer look.

There are 144 bought-in-2014-and-unread books in my TBR.
All the ones from January are series books.
There are none from February
Only six of the March ones are non-series books
There are none from April
Only four from May are non-series books
Only one from June is a non-series book.

So if I can read those 11 non-series books (and any others I buy later this year), I might be able to make this secondary challenge this year!

I'm slowly catching up on my reading. If I can keep this pace, I'll actually finish my challenge halfway in November.

I am woefully behind. We had a baby on January 22nd and it has just put all of my free time way out of whack.

For sure, Mr. Mouse. I was more speaking of after she goes to bed, but, as I have found out, I am wiped out by then!
