I've never understood the desire for smaller and smaller notebooks. For me, with big fingers, the keyboard rapidly gets too small to use. I had a netbook but sold it and bought a notebook with an 11.6" screen instead; for me, that's the smallest screen that results in a keyboard that I can actually comfortably use.

Go visit Chippy at UMPC Portal, and CarryPad. The problem with those like the Viliv, Everrun, OoO and other Ultra Mobiles was that there wasn't enough of a market, but Chippy and some others still are trying. Last edited by frahse; 10-04-2011 at 09:58 AM. |

I agree with you on the netbook keyboards. Although I did find a Dell netbook that seemed comfortable to type on, all the others I've tried are awkward. My fingers are quite slender, so I'm not sure how someone with big hands can type on those things. |

The minimum I can really touch type on is something like a 12.3 inch. For the 11.6 Air, I have to hold my hands kind of funny and they will get cramped.. Mind you I am good with my hands, and am a amateur Keyboardist (Piano and Organ). |

![]() Wow... this thread has really drifted off topic. ![]() The idea of a netbook I think is that you don't do much typing. The keyboard on my phone is tiny, but for the amount of "typing" I do on it, it is perfectly adequate. BOb |

But over on the Dell site, they had a heading: Dell Laptops and Notebooks and under that heading was two Alienware machines with 11.6 inch screens. There is another factor as well and that is the Aspect ratio. With the new 16:10, 16:9 ratios instead of a 4:3 ratio a 12.1 screen today will have a different total width than the old ones. e.g. a 19" 4:3 has a vertical height of a 24" to 26" 16:9 TV. I like the old 4:3 ratios because it proportions a book better. To get the same vertical height today, you have to get a bigger screen. |

I think "laptop" and "notebook" are pretty synonymous these days.
Where as Netbook is used for a lower powered device (not necessarily size) that is designed to be used mainly for Web Apps or low power requirement apps like email, calendar, to-do lists, etc. BOb |
