Corrupt-A-Topic (anymore off-topic and it would be on-topic)

Place not your faith in Hollywood, lest they turn from Depp and remake The Thin Man with Tom Cruise.

OMG!!! Are you listening to bugs in my office? I said, exactly, EXACTLY, the same thing. I live in dread that Cruise will step in. My only hope is, Nick doesn't do a lot of running. Nor is Cruise particularly well-known for his snappy patter, truth be told.

I don't give a crap WHO they put in the role. TRAVESTY!! (And, for that matter: who could do NORA????)

William Powell and Myrna Loy's Nick and Nora should be sacrosanct. It's akin to remaking Casablanca (and yes, thanks, I know that Barb Wire is a remake thereof. I don't mind BW; it's a humorous thing, all in).

They did try a television prequel to "Casablanca" starring David Soul, it didn't last.

Now for something off topic:

There has been talk of simplifying spelling by reducing the number of letters in the alphabet by eliminating unneeded letters. But what if the opposite was actually a better option: Reducing the number of sounds each letter makes to one, and assigning some sounds to new or redefined letters.

As an example is the letter "c." While it does not have a unique sound right now, what if it was given its own sound, that of "ch" (which it does in some words)? In the same way, the letter "x" could be given the "ks" sound, and the ampersand (&) could be given the "and" sound (would "sand" would become "s&" and "stand" would become "st&").

So my nickname would be written Cuck or Cuc if they kep the k sound as part of c instead of Chuck.

They might have cast the wrong David. Maybe they should have tried it with David Hasselhoff.

MWAHAHAHAHA.

David Soul of Starsky and Hutch fame? (And, reportedly, some unfortunate Domestic incidents, yes?) What disturbs me is that this is ringing vague bells in the nether-regions of my head, (seeing him in your basic Panama white suit), but mayhaps I am thinking of him in that Agatha Christie movie, the one where he played the lawyer in that misbegotten version of Appointment With Death, IIRC.

Hmmm. Name conflation is interesting. "David Soul" *always* makes me think of David McCallum who played Illya Kuryakin in "The Man from U.N.C.L.E." in the 1960's. Because his partner's TV name was Solo (hence the David .... Solo xxxx Soul). I was never even allowed to watch the show, and still I was in love with the few stills I saw of Illya Kuryakin's blond good looks. Wikipedia says he was as popular as a fifth Beatle, just for those looks. (yummy!)

He was also in the original version of Salem's Lot which was Stephen King's version of the Dracula idea.

Another bit of trivia, David McCallum was married to Jill Ireland until she was "stolen" off him by Charles Bronson, who went up to them at a party and told David that he was going to do just that.

Charles Bronson's first movie role was as a deaf mute sculptor in the movie House of Wax which was a remake of the same movie that was made back in the 30's. The 1950's version had Vincent Price as the owner of the wax museum and the original starred Lionel Atwill. The original was titled " Mystery of the wax museum."

Oh, gosh, badgoodDeb:

I was allowed to watch the show, and I had the WORST crush on "Ilya Kuryakin." LOL! (Still do, in fact!). I remember the craze that started with the pinking-shear-cut bangs! MWAHAHAHA.

Thank you -- I didn't think I could be the only one!!

I noticed the Wikipedia article said that Illya Kuryakin also inspired the surname and character of spy-master Simon Illyan in Lois McMaster Bujold's award-winning Vorkosigan Saga science fiction series. Which I'm also in love with (the series, not Simon's character. With Miles's character, in that series.)

We can't take David Hasselhoff from his true talent: Music!

Now on to something different:

The "Lord Of The Rings" Trilogy was originally one book, but was split into three books for marketing purposes.

Speaking of hairstyles, here's a new Un. Note the attention to detail: the importance of the brows has not been neglected. Will it start a trend? Ha! I predict within a year, it will be mandatory!Click image for larger version
