Works for me, it probably just hidden, unhide it. Remember hidden state for these is stored per layout.

Okay, I think I understand what happened:
The Bookshelf view emblem rules target the folder "resources/images/" instead of the "cc_icons/"
So yeah, inded that user icons was broken.

Not hidden, its in the Wide position, I change it to Narrow

And its gone, same in List and Grid View

New data: I think it's another 'depends where you start anomaly'. If I start calibre in List view its OK, irrespective of BD Show/Hide and Wide/Narrow - only seems to happen if I start calibre in Shelf view with BD in Wide position.

Just have to remember to not close calibre when its in Shelf view.

Added: Because I close minimised applications from the taskbar, I'd prefer a setting to to specify starting view (List, Grid or Shelf).

Yes now after changing it it will get hidden if it was hidden in the narrow view the last time narrow view was used. So unhide it. Aka, click the bookshelf layout button of press alft+shift+h

Released 8.9.11 with fixes for the emblems and downwards text issues. There are no known beta related bugs left.

Oh, I got one.
When using 'Above' for "Explanding hoverd cover", some emblem are not show.
Will look at it.

It's a shame I didn't see it before because my test library only had one row, and it occure only for the ones after the expanded one.
EDIT: found a fix, PR send.

Hard to remember something one never knew

I don't think I ever toggled layout between Wide and Narrow if BD was Hidden - would have shown it first then moved it with the Wide/Narrow toggle if it was in the 'wrong' place.

Always something to learn about calibre

And found a other one:
When using 'Above' for "Explanding hoverd cover", some the emblem of the hoverd books on the right are not hiden like the one at the left.
Work on it too, but will be a bit more tricky and not sure it will be a best fix, surely you will do a beter that me on this one.

EDIT: fix found, PR updated to include it.
