I am impressed with its battery life. 10x better than the Oasis and Paperwhite. Kudos to Amazon for actually trying this time

Yes, that's exactly my observation many pages back. The battery life is excellent. It's what they all should have been all along. That and only about 1/2 as many page turns due to the excellent size make it an almost perfect ereader.

Ordered my Scribe today. For some reason it is on sale, the reason being "National Reading Month Save up to 34% on Kindle." Seen a article pop up in my feed that the Scribe is at its lowest price ever. So my thought process goes:

  1. check link in article: Scribe 16gb Basic Pen: $290 instead of $340 Nice!!
  2. what about 64gb? $355 instead of $420 - almost ready to order
  3. no cover? Essentials bundle (64gb, black leather, useless charger) for $326 instead of $520 - great, cheaper than the 64gb alone on sale, cheaper than regular price 16gb
  4. but I wanted burgundy color: $100 more expensive for same bundle ($426 burgundy vs $326 black) - no deal
  5. ordered the black 64gb essential bundle

Black is fine, I guess. If I don't like it, I can throw it away and get a different cover. If I like the way the cover works, I won't throw it away just for the color.

So, if you are on the fence, do it now. Probably goes for any other Kindle as well, but I wasn't looking.

Thank you! I purchased a 16GB/premium two days ago. Rather than trying to get a discount back from CS I decided to order the same bundle, return the 16GB, and cancel the case I had ordered. I saved money!

You American people have it all I received my Scribe yesterday from amazon.de, happy with it so far but paid full price for it, no deals here. For those in Europe (or elsewhere) tempted to buy one on Amazon US, it seems they won’t ship kindles internationally.

Oh well

Sorry about that. I should have mentioned the US.

Haha no worries at all, I was prepared anyway to buy it at full retail price so it’s no biggie, and it’s a really good deal for those who can take advantage of it At any rate it seems the Spring Sale is coming next week on Amazon.de; if they do discount the Scribe I might reach out to Amazon and kindly ask them to knock a few euros off my bill.

As for the device itself I’m still learning my way around it (which is not very difficult as it’s basically a big kindle), and so far I’m quite liking it, it’s great for fixed layout PDFs and images in general, and it much snappier than my other kindles. Unfortunately I do find the screen lighting rather uneven; the side with the wider bezel is noticeably darker and yellower than the other side. It’s a bit less annoying than on the Oasis, as the eyes have to travel a longer distance before reaching the end of the line, but I was hoping for a more uniform screen. Then again, I’ve never seen a kindle screen lit evenly enough to my taste, and I also recognize the challenge in uniformly lighting a 10 inch screen with miniature LEDs located somewhere between the screen and the digitizer layer while keeping the distance between those as small as possible.

The writing is phenomenal. The input delay is so small as to be negligible, and the various pen types add a lot of flexibility and plain fun to the writing experience. Note taking was not my main reason to get the scribe, but I can see myself using that feature much more than I initially intended. From the various reviews, I was however hoping for an even better “paper” feel. I have an iPad with a paper-like screen protector, and in my opinion it feels more natural than the scribe. The drawback is that it does make the screen look grainier; I guess it’s again a question of finding the right balance, I would certainly not want my Scribe to look grainier.

All right, back to playing with my new toy now!

For me, it shipped the cover separately and said it was $44.00, so in theory I could cancel it but even like-new covers are $44 and I'm ok with black, but for you, maybe see if you can return it.

In my case it lists as $52 on the bill, and that is still lower than the current sales price. So even if I could, I would still need to pay $20 extra to get the burgundy color. I will take the saving, especially since I am merely settling on prefered color rather than quality.

I am fairly sure that the black 64gb essentials bundle is the best value, oftentimes literally cheaper than others. It is that one unicorn Amazon throws as a bone to people like me that are numbers driven.

Thank you for the tip. Maybe I should hit CS up and ask for my 4 free months of KU. The essential bundles don't include that while all non bundle Scribes do.

Update: It arrived two days earlier than promised, on a Sunday nonetheless. Very impressed with size, speed, handling. Not impressed with print replica - writing on top is nice, but I think I will simply sideload PDFs instead. Writing feels nice, but I think I will skip that too.

That's what I thought re the writing functionality - and, three months later, I hardly do any reading at all! I have done so many puzzles (I send them to my Scribe each morning from The Times UK), and last year I started learning coding, and I've starting using the notebooks for this all the time - something I never envisaged at all. But the writing feels so nice, especially with the new fountain pen, that it is a great way for me to keep my notes organized in one place instead of in various paper notebooks that I never pick up after use (and just end up cluttering my house up).

I purchased a great notebook template on Etsy (goes into the PDFs of the Library section, not Notebooks) and it has a contents page, plus a section list for each section, so it has a kind of organizational tree within the notebook. It's really keeping my complicated notes organized.

I also bought a weekly planner template from Etsy which is easily replacing my Filofax - although I am still noting down my projects, PO and invoice details on the paper copy for my tax records. I don't fully trust the kindle to keep my business records safe.

I love this device, but I did not predict that it would pretty much stop me reading. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have.

I am planning on enjoying it. I believe I will read more. Maybe less novels and more educational/instructional stuff. PDFs look so much nicer on it, just by being bigger. No longer wish to trim the borders, or try reading in landscape.

I find I am reading more on my Scribe, in part perhaps due to the free trial of KU but mostly due to enjoying reading more with this device.

Use magnetic cover in landscape

Oh, Pjama, did you ever find a case for landscape stand? If not the original Amazon cover can be easily convinced. Pop out the Scribe, replace the pen with a pencil (it works without, but it is more stable with), fold cover up as stand, flip over, set Scribe sideways with button on top. See attached picture.

Thanks DuckieTigger! I will try this! I did get a stand that works in both directions, and it is pretty nice, but quite bulky, so I've gone back to using the official one.
