Sure! Everything is supposed to work as usual. When updating the firmware, select "handle update" > "install partial update". When installing GeoffR's patch, select "handle update" > "install update".

Works without problems. Tried patching three times to experiment with different patches, and I had absolutely no problems (with 3.15.0).

I updated to 3.17.3 today and I pressed "install update" instead of "install partial update". I am glad to find the solution on #208 and it worked like a charm

			Hello

Sorry for the newbye question, I'm new and I don't even know if this is the appropiate thread. I've followed the instructions to install KSM7 on my kobo glo hd with firmware 3.17.3 The update finishes and KSM starts, but the menu is so small that I have problems to choose options, and some options -like configure menu- are impossible to select (even with smaller fingers )I've tried to change the font size in the file .adds\kbmenu\usersettings.txt (it didn't exist and I had to create it) but nothing changed after restart. I tried to uninstall KSM, but the uninstall file only supports firmwares up to 3.13.1 Any suggestions?? thanks a lot! |

As for changing the font size, follow Boriar's advice. If you have difficulties starting nickel or going into the usb menu, try to use the eraser of an automatic pencil instead of your fingers. Question to all Glo HD users: What would be a good default kobomenuFontsize for Glo HD? Maybe 60? Last edited by tshering; 08-26-2015 at 05:58 PM. |

After reading this post (link) i was wondering - why not make restoring KSM a bit easier (after accidentaly installing full kobo update for example)? If i got it right, in this case nickel is still able to run those fmon png's. So why not make an exit_nickel.sh a bit more complicated and make it check /etc/init.d/rcS for KSM presence, and if it's not there - put it there? Not actually necessary, but it won't require PC and it'll be possible to restore KSM on-the-go. What do you think about this? |

Also, just installed KSM08 on my Glo, kinda like the changes that were made to its organization. The only thing i'll "complain" (word's too strong) about is usb_enable.sh. There's a section that meant to be edited by user, but now it's deep in the /adds. Maybe it needs some update like a flag "get the data from /mnt/onboard/kbmenu_user/usb.txt" that will be set through configuring menu. As always, not really important or something but i'm the kind of guy who fight for a little fixes that make the whole life better

Since the introduction of usb_enable_id_like_nickel.sh, there should not be any need for the user to edit usb_enable.sh.

By the way, the user can still overwrite files or add files to KSM without telnet, ssh or similar. However it is less comfortabel then it was with previous versions. This is the price for having a part of KSM on the system partiton. One has to copy the respective files with its whole directory structure into .../kbmenu_user/sysmirror (create it, if it does not yet exist), and then select "tools" > "ksm diverse.msh" > "copy sysmirror to sys.sh". In order to replace /adds/kbmenu/scripts_intern/usb/usb_enable.sh by your modified version, create .../kbmenu_user/sysmirror/adds/kbmenu/scripts_intern/usb/usb_enable.sh, and select "copy sysmirror to sys.sh". In this way you can copy any files to the system partition. Of course, you can also pack your files into a KoboRoot.tgz and use the update mechanism. I'm not able to start nickel from start menu. Nickel shows its progress dots but after it is about to show the main interface it jumps back to start menu. Is there a way to see why this happens? Thanks!

After that you should be able t start nickel via "start nickel", and return to KSM by opening "exit_nickel.png". Last edited by tshering; 08-29-2015 at 07:06 AM. |
