It's no coincidence that when life gets stressful, my OCD kicks in and screams "Let me organize something!!!" LOL I've even offered to organize the ebook library of the guy I've been seeing. It was kind of sad. "Please? I don't even need to do it there, just put them on a jump drive!" Unfortunately, he neither cares how organized his ebooks are nor realizes my current need to exert control over digital files.
I completely understand! I am the same way with my ebooks, mp3s, etc. Unfortunately, I can't seem to motivate myself to do my desk or house as well!

As for the plugin, I downloaded it months ago but never got it to work the way i wanted it to, plus I don't know how to start over with it completely from scratch so I gave up. At this point I have approx 1000 books, so I don't know that I want to fool with it.

My now-restructured library has 900, and I thought the same, but here's something interesting - do you use the Goodreads metadata plugin? If so, the Goodreads ID is probably already populated for a lot of books, which means that those books don't need to be manually linked. That saved me a lot of time - over 400 of my books already had GR IDs. The rest I just took my time, and have been doing it over the last few days. Let me know if you ever decide to do it and I can give you some more tips. I don't know if you recall, but I tried using it before and it didn't work for me either, but for some reason things "clicked" this time.

I did, however, export my goodreads shelves before emptying them just to be safe. (Not that import ever works like it should if I needed to do that.) It was just easier to "start over" than to try to sync what was already there.

Thanks. I'll think about it. Right now, I'm just adding books as I read them (or think about reading them ). What I'd like to do is create a 2012 reading list to follow for next years 100 book challenge. I know, however, that plans will most likely change as I keep finding/downloading more and more free books.

No, I definitely won't be getting a Fire. If I get a tablet, it will be a tablet PC or convertible notebook computer. I really want the Lenovo Thinkpad X-Tablet, so I will probably hold off until I can get it. Yes, it's pricey and big, but I have no use for an app-based ecosystem like Android or iOS. I am an Android fan, but my smartphone does all I need in that department. A tablet PC, on the other hand, is something I can get a lot of use out of so even at the much higher cost it would be a better investment.

As far as eReaders, I like the K4-NT, and I kind of like the KT but I'm really bothered by the lack of page-turn buttons. That's why I'm looking at the Sony line and others.

Yes, I miss having page turn buttons on my iPad. Plus, as far as the 3G Kindle Touch is concerned, it doesn't appear that you can surf the net on the device unless you have a wi-fi connection. Unlike the way 3G works for the Kindle Keyboard, the Kindle Touch 3G network only allows you to buy books from Amazon or look things up on Wikipedia. I might get one of those Fire devices, though. I've ordered one for my grandson for Christmas, and if I like it, I'll order one for myself.

Yes, I've been following the 3G thread. I'm not surprised by Amazon making this move, I was expecting it to happen eventually, so it's interesting to see the reaction to it. When I first got my K3 3G, I didn't have a smartphone, so that ability was more important than it is now. It's one of those features (or lack thereof) that will affect some people in a big way and others not at all.

The Fire is pretty cool, I just know myself well enough to know that I'd use it heavily for a week then not much at all afterwards.

Since Android can be installed on almost any machine, I thought it would be really amusing to install it as an alternate OS on the X-Tablet, not only because I do like Android but also because I think it would get some interesting reactions when people see Android running on that monster.

I found out Thursday that I did not get the job I interviewed for. Not the end of the world, but disheartening since I had to apply to about 40 jobs just to get that one interview. I've been offered a fall-back opportunity that, while it won't solve some of my more pressing issues (health insurance is the big one), it will bring in some more money and at least allow me to get a little ahead financially and maybe even get my income taxes paid on time.

But on the upside - I'm reading more again! That's always a good thing, right? Since I haven't made any music lately, I need to do something with my time. My muse will wake up eventually, I guess. And it's Autumn, which means I'm in my "cooking season". I hardly cook anything at all in the warmer months, but when the temperatures drop I'm all about pasta, soups, stews... Comfort food, basically.

Wow. This post reads like a diary entry. How is everyone else doing?

Sorry about the job. Hopefully something else will come along, and like you said, thankfully you have a fall back opportunity. In the meantime, enjoy your reading and cooking. May they fill your days with joy.

As the door closes on one opportunity, more doors will open on other opportunities. Just be prepared to go through them. Your time will come my friend.
