And I liked much of her work from years ago, mostly shorter fiction.
I had nothing better to do, so I snagged the first one. The claim is that "they tried" to move the asteroid with no success.

Halfway though the book, I'm getting a real "To Serve Man" vibe from it, so I suspect that after spending Book 1 getting to the Atlantean planet, the remaining books will be...

2. Main character being put through the grinder on the Atlantean planet (can't tell yet if they want humans as cannon fodder or gladiators) to try to save her family on Earth.
3. Main character fomenting an uprising against Atlantean overlords.
4. Story of the rebellion winning, and the main character finding a way to subvert Atlantean technology to save Earth after all.

Forgot to mention this when you posted but DART:

Don't even need much by way of "interplanetary travel" to deflect an asteroid or comet sufficiently to avoid a plantary collision given suffient advance warning. Assuming it works, and there is little reason to believe it won't.

A bundle of the six Heiresses of Russ anthologies is on sale for $5 (or $2-$3 individually) on Weightless Books.
These are best-of collections of lesbian-themed speculative fiction.

Those Hothouse stories are delightful, full of wonder (and language).

Dreamsnake by Vonda N. McIntyre is $1.99 on Amazon.com
This is a new edition with an introduction by Nisi Shawl.
Quote:
On an Earth scarred by nuclear war, Snake harnesses the power of venom to cure illnesses and vaccinate against disease. The healer can even ease patients into death with the power of her dreamsnake. But she is not respected and trusted by all, and when she tries to help a sick nomad child, the frightened clan kills her dreamsnake.

Ashamed of being misjudged and grieving the loss of her dreamsnake, Snake has one choice to maintain her livelihood: she must travel to the city, which jealously guards its knowledge. And before she faces the prejudices and arrogance of the people there, Snake must make her way across a barren desert, surviving storms and radiation poisoning, helping those she can -- all while a madman stalks her every move...

From a Certain Point of View: The Empire Strikes Back is $1.99 on Amazon.com
This is an anthology of original stories by many current and popular authors exploring and expanding on tiny details from the second Star Wars movie.

Instead of paying authors for the stories, Disney got everyone to forgo compensation and donate all proceeds to charity. They could have donated profits AND paid authors.

Disney doesn't pay authors. As someone famously said "I am altering the deal. Pray I don't alter it any further."

Indeed they don't, for those who hadn't heard about it here's some information. It affects every property Disney has acquired, not just Star Wars novels. It's clearly a deliberate decision on Disney's part to keep money for themselves that they don't deserve and it's disgusting.
