Really cheap kittie toy idea (your kitteh is adorables, lilac_jive ) - scrunchie paper. Our two always preferred scrunchie paper over just about anything else (except things dangling on poles and the red dot, and, occasionally, the yeti's toes under the duvet...)

seconded !! scrunchy paper ftw ! my cat LOVES that stuff. other cheap toys : empty paper bags, boxes, folded metro tickets, and for a long time the bug's favourite game was played using the cut off corners of empty milk cartons. she would jump on the bed, and i would throw them in the air, and she would leap up and try to catch them (or at least hit them) mid-flight. sadly, i think the laser pointer has spoiled her and the milk-carton tips don't get much interest anymore, which is a shame because that was a really fun game.

don't give her string or rubber bands though (even though, if she's like my cats, she WANTS THEM) ; cats like to eat those, and it can cause severe problems in their intestines.

when i first got my kitten she would attack my toes under the duvet as well. as long as it *was* under the duvet i was protected. but she figures that as long as they're not visible, it's all the same. she doesn't seem to realise that there is a big difference between a thick fluffy duvet and just a sheet... luckily she doesn't do that *nearly* so much anymore. although she does love it if i slide my hand under the duvet and wiggle my fingers, she will take a flying leap from the other side of the bed to pounce on it.

Laser points and my two cats are fire and oxygen... I only have to pick up the device and the ears and eyes of the smaller ones will open. He'll start mewing softly, his tail will start wagging. And I haven't even turned on the thing yet! The small one is small and agile, the big one is brutish and stiff. It's fun to let them run a bit and then move the pointer back again and see that cat sliding about a meter across the laminated floor

Our previous cat (the one in my avatar) couldn't care less about laser pointers... (and we only found out by accident that the new one loved it, as we were using it for the purpose we bought it for...)

heeheehee ! yep, mine is the same way. in fact when i first got it, i couldn't for the life of me figure out why she would come running, with saucer eyes and miauling like a mad thing every time i picked up a pen, or my keys, or any random thing with a bit of metal. then i realised it was because she thought it was the laser pointer (the first one i got was on a keychain so it jingled a bit. jingly metal, or any metallic click against the table, = RED DOT OF CHAOS in her brain).

Argggggg! I've been on the phone with Sony for the last 25 minutes mostly listening to dead air as the technician confers with his "colleagues" to try and solve my EBL 3.0 problems. I explained everything that's been happening and his answer was, "that's weird". In all this time, he hasn't had me try ANYTHING. I'm a really patient person, but I'm pretty close to hanging up on him. The only problem is, I've already committed this much time and I don't want to have to go through the whole explanation again with someone else!

Kazbates mentioned Hanging.

I can't help it, I want to hurt something. I've now got two Macs and one Dell trying to get my wife's 505 to let her read Brick Lane, and it's Zip, Nada, Niente. Now my 505 is locked out having tried to help me by being used as a 'sacrificial diode'.

Waterstone's staff allowed us an extra download, but no good. Adobe digital editions doesn't even see the 505s on the screens. The Dell sees both books but won't let me register the pretty red one in her own Adobe ID.

I could go on but will hold back for fear of hitting the red mist again. The dog is scared, the wife is nervous; drink is an option.

Can't these people who write the programmes try just once to co-ordinate their systems? How many accumulated hours/days, have members of this forum, Adobe's Forums, Apple forums, Mac forums etc. connived to get those simple electronic books to work with the software supposedly designed to enable us to use them more efficiently.

They wouldn't know efficient if it was an ice cold salmon smacking them around the ears. I shall have to send for Jedi Toots.

I would definitely send for Jedi Toots in that situation!

I'm afraid I can't offer help (practical or otherwise) with the problem though.

That Jedi dog is ADORABLE!!

As it happened, I did hang up on the first guy. I'm sorry to say he was useless!! The second guy was very helpful and knew exactly how to fix my problem. When I ranted about being on hold with the other guy for over 30 minutes, the second guy apologized and said there had been a lot of new people hired recently. Still, that's 30 minutes of my life I'll never get back and I don't have that much left to just tinkle away!!
