Well the nights are definitely becoming cooler !

It's a grey still morning for the 1st of September (some say autumn, in the north hemisphere, and spring in the south), and at 6C (43F) it's a chilly start !

HOT again - the only good thing about this late-season high pressure dome cooking us in the 90's F is that (hopefully) it will bounce Hurricane Earl off - and keep it from coming inland at all. Now appears Earl will sideswipe the Outer Banks and maybe become a New England or Canadian Maritime Provinces hurricane!

[still stocking up on bottled water, batteries, etc. and charging all the phones, readers, laptops]

It was a chilly autumnal start, very damp, but by mid-morning the sun is shining and it's a warm feeling 11 C (52F).

Very HOT today & tomorrow!

Apparently high pressure dome will keep Hurricane Earl off shore - probably rearrange the Barrier Islands & Outer Banks - then up to Long Island! Total disaster for Labor Day weekend business there - mandatory evacuations of tourists.

I'm spending this hot, humid day on Cape Cod getting the house ready for Hurricane Earl. I've got my supplies ready, and now I've got to stow away all the patio and deck furniture, windowboxes, hanging or potted plants, and anything else around the yard that could become a potential missile. It's practically a given that we'll lose electrical power for a few days, but so it goes.
