I think that the next time Kris gets ahold of the key, she needs to go to Ace Hardware and get herself and Frak a copy, so that Freaky Frik will be powerless.

we're supposed to be getting one of those key boxes, but I am certain that that like waaaaay too many other things that have been promised to relieve tension around here will not surface

I feel guilty even venting about this, much less ranting. But today I have an unrelenting headache, I didn't sleep well, and I'm thoroughly disgusted. I have lovely neighbors. The ones on the right keep to themselves, though they are pleasant when we meet outside or in public. The neighbor on the left is a retired lady with about a million grandkids. She is a doll, and I love her dearly. However, her driveway is about three inches from my bedroom window. She is an early riser. My husband and I both work second shift, (3 - 11 p.m.) so, by definition we are NOT early risers. She knows we work second shift, and normally she makes an effort to use her front door (that doesn't open on to her driveway) instead of her back door (which does), until about noon.
However: I don't know what's changed, but she now has two grown grandkids and at least one great grandkid over there EVERY morning - and they either don't realize that's a bedroom window and we're sleeping behind it, or they don't care. They yell at each other - the baby cries - they hammer things.
I'm sleep deprived, cranky, and ready to make a stink, which I know would be very NOT nice. So instead, I'm ranting about it here...

That really is a shame Shel.

Speaking as somebody who once slept through our next door neighbours cars having all their windows smashed, one of them being set alight, the neighbour chasing the perpetrators down the road and the police and fire engines arriving(!), I can't really empathise, but, if I were you, I would have a quiet word with the Grandma before you get so cranky it's impossible for you to do so in a civilised fashion. If she has always been a doll before, I seriously hope for your sake that she will be again.

I wonder also, if there is a sound proofing material that could be easily placed over your bedroom window, just to help a little more? Having a fan running in the room (not a completely quiet fan) can help provide white noise background too.

here's a thought... take an old sheet and in your best tagger handwriting put; "hey you guysssss!!!!!!!!! this is our bedroom and we work the nightshift!!!!!!!!!!!! thanks loads for your cooperation!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" and tape it outside your bedroom

You shouldn't feel guilty. But perhaps they don't realize you work nights. Would having a friendly word with the neighbor help? Sometimes, people just have to be reminded.

Or, the grandkids could be aholes. But it wouldn't hurt to try the nice direct route first........

Also, never underestimate the sound dampening power of foam backed curtains and acoustical tiles on the ceiling. It doesn't stop the noise, but it dulls the sharpness, says the sound sleeper (me) who lives next door to the weirdo who likes to work on his pickup truck at all hours of the night. (He has to do it at night, because otherwise, the disability people might catch him at it, cut off his checks, and he might actually have to work for a living.)
