The Graveyard Book is a very, very different book from American Gods. For one, American Gods is decidedly a "grown-up book", while The Graveyard Book had at least the trappings of a children's book. I've read both, but they don't compare at all and, in any case, you shouldn't judge Gaiman on one book. He's one of those authors who change style with almost all books. I'd suggest you check out a sample...

I did read the book Gaiman wrote with Terry Pratchett...Good Omens which I did like.

Unfortunately, when people vote based on other things besides actually wanting to read the book, we tend to get a rather blah book.

I wanted to (re-)read the book! I admit I'd forgotten that the first book had so much less fantasy action in it than the other two.

Just finished Jan Guillou's Road to Jerusalem, and have started the sequel The Knight Templar. I'm really enjoying it, and can recommend them both already.. Also listening to Atlantis by David Gibbins on audiobook - It's not as great.. But maybe its because its an audiobook...

I also just finished The Third Twin and A Place Called Freedom by Ken Follett.. Enjoyed the second book much more than the first one..

It wasn't too bad, Jon, but it did seem to move rather slowly. A lot could be cut out, IMO, and it would be a better book. Perhaps a Reader's Digest edition is in order! I am curious to know how the Pacs character develops, but I'm not sure if I'm curious enough to read further. Perhaps one day. Folks who have read the series seem to agree that the second and third books are better.

It's been a Book Club month for me.

Finished "The Sheepfarmer's Daughter" and "American Gods" and then got started on "His Majesty's Dragon" last night. All good reads..

I appreciate the posts where people give a brief rating of what they read. A lot of people use this thread for ideas of new books to read. Even something as simple as "All good reads" helps a lot. I propose that everyone do this.

I'll second/third whatever that! just posting cover images tells people nothing about the book.

I've picked up some pretty good reads here from other people's opinions. I certainly don't read books just from the cover image (linked from Amazon). Why not at least include the link to the book?

Yes, a link can be useful. I'm afraid I am often too lazy to post one myself though

Enjoying "Baku, last days" very much. I was wrong in my earlier post, and I should probably go back and edit it. Olivier Rolin went to Baku because he once wrote a short story describing his own suicide in a Baku hotel room, after spending one night there on a trip. I like how he writes about the loneliness and melancholy of travels. Interestingly, that was also what I liked about "Terminal Frigo", a book his brother Jean Rolin wrote that is also a sort of travel diary.

Unfortunately neither book seems to be translated, though a few of Olivier Rolin's books are available in English.

Hi Folks....

Can you please refrain for posting cover images here. It causes the thread to load much more slowly and makes the data download much bigger. We have many users that are not lucky enough to have flat rate unlimited internet service and have to pay by the bit.

Thanks for your consideration.

@pilotbob

Using Safari, I find your last message to be almost unreadable. It's pale green on a grey background, and my aging eyes had to peer at it most uncomfortably. Maybe this is my browser, but if you want people to pay attention to your messages, I'd advise using another colour scheme

Best wishes
