Kindle Scribe

I sure wish they would push out an update one of these days. I keep having it display the wrong toolbar when I try to close a book, and there's no <- Library button (workaround is to tap Store icon and then X).

And now, the Filter and View options have stopped working, and I have to Restart.

Apart from bug fixes, still waiting for a fix for Print Replica issues (converted from PDF).

Incidentally, I had the same issue with disappearing (<-library) when playing around with print replica on my Oasis. I think the print replica renderer needs to be completely redone. It is not just bad on the Scribe, though the Scribe is only one that "supports" it, if you want to call it support.

Next time I want to read a PDF, I crop the margins beforehand, or convert it to a comic if I don't need text selection. Converted to a comic, it flips pages super fast, faster than the pdf or print replica version of the book. File size? Well, huge, but performance good.

Too bad you cannot mark up comics. Would be easy, just add another layer image on top.

Yes, and on Scribe, they should let you enable Pen toolbar (and create Sticky Notes) for any fixed layout format, including Comics. And even on other devices, why can't you create (regular) notes, etc.? Long press where you want one and it brings up Note dialog etc.

Thank you for posting this solution - this is happening to me most days when I do puzzles - sometimes multiple times. And I had been restarting my Scribe each time until I saw your post.

I hope they fix their software. I also hope they add landscape, and put the reading progress bar back. I know they won't, but it doesn't stop me hoping.

For Notebooks, it seems it would be trivial to add some templates that are intended to be used when the device is in Landscape (and have the UI in that orientation to match when you select them).

The problem is that for both PDF and Print Replica, Kindle platform assumes that the document's long axis is 'up'. When it is not, there's a mismatch between the document 'up' and the UI 'up'.

There are not very many textbooks (if any) where the long axis is not up/down, but if you want to review a slide deck, there should be a way to match the UI up to the document up.

Scribe does show an Orientation Layout option but it's greyed out, and in any case would not handle the 'slide deck' use case correctly.

I'd rather it automatically oriented the UI to match the document 'up', with best fit. For a slide deck, it would make you physically rotate the device to review it.

Print Replica support in the apps is also deficient:

-- it doesn't matter how large your screen is, the PC/Mac apps will not give you 2 page mode for PDF or Print Replica.

-- the Android/iOS apps don't have any Layout options for PDFs or Print Replica: fit to screen when device is in portrait mode, fit-to-width when it is in landscape mode. That's okay on a small screen, but on tablets it makes landscape very unpleasant, and once you have a 10-13' screen you start to want a 2 page option, or at least a way to go to 100% (or even fit to height) instead of having it fixed at 150%+ zoom (it doesn't let you zoom out at all).

-- at least iPads with M1 or M2 chips need 2 page support, as they may be connected to large displays to extend desktop.

-- If they plan on supporting Print Replica on all current Kindles, it needs to have small screen accommodations (involving landscape device usage, auto cropping etc). PDF support had some of this (though not as good as the competition), so that should be the bar to get over for PR.

I should have specified, I want landscape to offer a two-page view in books (as well as a standard landscape option in notebooks, and the ability to write in landscape format on PDFs. Amazon has gone all out with the portrait format covers though, so I really doubt they are going to do this.

Irrelevant aside - I am buying the illustrated Lord of the Rings to read - the sample looks great on the big screen! Illustrations by Mr. Tolkien. Rereading it again!

i got an sms from 262966 showing a link to "amzn.com/orders". it says i have a refund of 12.59 from the order of the "Kindle Scribe Brush Print Leather Folio Cover with Magneti..." that i made when i ordered the scribe bundle. wondering if others got this because i did not return the item and was not expecting any kind of refund (and 12.59 is a fraction of the cost of the item). it also says to check in 3-5 days. was there some kind of price reduction that initiated this? or is this sms a complete scam?

Print Replica documents are (converted from PDF) are searchable (assuming the originating PDF had a text layer). And if you have PDF 'named' bookmarks, these will appear in the document's Table of Contents view.

Still need to be able to select text for highlighting, dictionary lookup, Note target etc.

You can start deleting the sms right away when you see amzn.com. Check your emails from Amazon, and see if they ever abbreviate their links. They don't. Only scammers do.Though the number checks out. Chat with Amazon, see if they can help figure out why you would get a refund when you didn't return. The one thing I could think of is, they didn't apply the bundle price correctly - check the order and see if they forgot to discount something. I looked in my phone, and the SMS I get are of this kind for refunds:

Refund Issued: $XX.xx for bla bla bla.., available now in your Amazon account. Details amzn.com/orders.

But I have never receiced a pending refund, or confirmation that they received an item. This number is strictly for "refund issued" and "otp codes" nothing else.

looks like it's legit. i see a 12.59 back charge on my credit card that is pending. the only reason i can think of is that they lowered the price of the cover and it was within so many days of the price change. within the bundle, the itemized charge for the cover was 92.58 when i ordered it. the current price for the cover is 79.99. the difference is exactly 12.59.

It looks like my local Best Buy has the Kindle scribe in stock so I went to head and purchased a 32 GB. I really needed a 64 GB but that’s all they had. So far I’m quite impressed with the writing on the notepad. It is smooth and flawless better than Kobo Sage. I haven’t download in my library yet it’s charging up. I literally got it five minutes ago lol. I can’t believe how huge it is!
