Thanks. Do you mean for the next version, or for 0.6.6 already?

I have installed Python 3.1, latest Calibre 0.6.17
when trying to convert to .ebpub format from unicode rtf file I get a failure with errors: line: 2 char: 9 'ascii' codec can't decode byte 0xd1 in position 0: ordinal not in range(128) line: 2 char: 11 'ascii' codec can't decode byte 0xe3 in position 0: ordinal not in range(128) line: 2 char: 12 'ascii' codec can't decode byte 0xe0 in position 0: ordinal not in range(128) line: 2 char: 13 _________________ I would assume a line for each unicode character, anything I am doing wrong? How can I fix it? Thank you |

calibre only supports ASCII encoded RTF files.

Hi,
I am trying to convert my book to default ePub format but am having trouble with blank lines. I tried from both Word and HTML but get the same problem. I don't want blank lines to show between my paragraphs so I am forced to tick the option to remove them, otherwise they seem to get inserted. The problem is that sometimes I do want blank lines. So how do I tell Calibre not to remove them? I tried these (in the HTML version) but they are all ignored:

In the end the only one that worked was to use a paragraph with a space in it:

There must be a better way. Am I overlooking an option somewhere to tell it not to remove deliberate blank lines? |

Unselect that option and use the following in extra css
p { margin: 0pt; border:0pt } |

My question is probably very basic but I don't yet seem to have the knowledge to fix the error I keep getting.
When I use calibre (0.6.19 currently) to convert to an epub or lrf file, I also create a "book jacket" from the metadata. In the book jacket comment section, my end of paragraph returns and blank line are turned into code. i.e. Little Women is the story of the four March sisters--Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy--in a family that has been loved by readers young and old for generations.

Whether they are putting on plays, forming the Pickwick Club, or entertaining Laurie, the lonely boy next door, the sisters and their mother play and work together to maintain an interesting and fun household while their father is away at war. instead of what is in the metadata comments Little Women is the story of the four March sisters--Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy--in a family that has been loved by readers young and old for generations. Whether they are putting on plays, forming the Pickwick Club, or entertaining Laurie, the lonely boy next door, the sisters and their mother play and work together to maintain an interesting and fun household while their father is away at war. I have not noticed any problems with returns & blank lines in the converted book file, only the book jacket. I have probably checked too many choices in my conversions, but the book file end result is usually fine with the only problem being the book jacket. When I convert, I have checked - remove spacing, insert blank line, no text just, linearize tables, insert metadata as page. I am usually converting from mobi/prc or odt to epub/lrf. How do I fix? thanks |

The calibre comments field does not have support for HTML markup.

so returns or blank lines in the comments field show only in meta information section but not in the book jacket.
what about indents or extra spaces? if I indent a paragraph in the comments field rather than putting a blank line between paragraphs will that transfer over to the book jacket? no - I don't get the funky

anymore, I just get a large clump of text. I've spaced somewhat between paragraphs by using ......... it's not pharmaceutically elegant but it gets the job done. Thanks for the answer. |

P {margin: 0pt; border:0pt; text-indent: 1.5em;} P.noindent {margin: 0pt; border:0pt;text-indent: 0em;} In HTML it now displays perfectly. For the few paragraphs I don't want indenting I now just specify
Unfortunately Calibre seems to take no notice of the above. I tick no options and yet spaces apear betwen the paragraphs and all indenting is removed. As you may have gathered I am a novice at both HTML and EPUB so it is probably me doing something daft. Any suggestions would be appeciated. |

My source file looks like this:
Chapter 1

There was something supernatural here, something extraordinary.
So I do the conversion, default reader, tick no options, copy/pasting the Extra CSS from the help page: p, div { margin: 0pt; border: 0pt; text-indent: 1.5em } .spacious { margin-bottom: 1em; text-indent: 0pt; } But when I open the epub output and look at what it has done I see this:
Chapter 1

There was something supernatural here, something extraordinary.
And every paragraph where I have not explicitly chosen a class is set to spacious, which is not what it says is meant to happen. Is Calibre getting it wrong or am I? |

I'm having a problem converting PDF to EPUB. The book I converted was Alice's Adventures in Wonderland (just want to view the output). The EPUB output file has no TOC. I was expecting that calibre would get the PDF's bookmark to become EPUB's TOC. Here is the PDF and EPUB:
